My TL just passed 71k Miles and I've noticed the knocking noise when accelerating. This just happened within the last two months but the thing is it comes and goes.
Sometime the car runs fine but once in awhile i can hear the knocking noise. It bothers the hell out of me.
I will try to look at the spark plugs tomorrow but the car is only 71k Miles. It doesn't make sense to me that any of the spark plugs fails.
The other thing I'm looking into is the low oil pressure. Since the 3.7 Engine burns oil, it could be a problem.
I recently change Mobil1 synthetic oil at 69K Miles.
Has any other member have the same problem???

 

Going to say this as a 'catch-all' answer to any noise posted. Seriously after having my ATF filter replaced 2x, I heard a noise that my brain said, 'sounds like a bearing' my neighbor came over after hearing the noise and said the same. I thought perhaps water pump, no it was ATF filter. I heard it at idle and would disappear on higher RPM esp when the engine was cold. Now the second time, they replaced it - it made a gurgling sound, like you expect with fluid. At least I got 2 free tranny fluid changes. I am not saying that is your problem. Just expect the unexpected sound. Though it did not sound like a knock, since I think of poor octane and timing, knocking noise when some says knock.

I thought about that too but the ATF filter was replaced when i had my transmission fluid changed under TSB and this "knocking noise" is intermittent..Only happened when it's cold outside .. so far.

 

That is my guess.. I will try to remove the spark plugs to see if any of them has damages..
I'm doing a search in here to see if there is any DIY for that..

 

Could it being the timing tensioner? More of a clicking noise though.
