Door is Crooked....

I didn't notice this until about 2 days after I got the car but the drivers door is out quite a bit. I took to the dealer and they're ordering me a new door! Anyone else with this problem?

Make sure they get it right and I'd put in a call to Acura, or you can wait for the online surveys to report your issues. Dealerships have been messing up own beloved 4G's as of late, so watch them carefully.

I have the same problem too on the driver's side. I've had the TL for one month and didn't notice it.

I'm not really a big fan of having spent $40, 000+ on a car with a crooked door. They will fix it until they get it right...

Exactly, that's why I'd call Acura directly, they will get on the dealer.

i had the same problem, but mine was the trim on top of the door that wasn't level, they ordered a new one and fixed it immediately.

looks like yours is a little more than just trim though..

They tried to adjust it. It's like the door is some what indented because it is only off in that one spot pictured. the rest of the door is fine. It seems that everyone is having this problem. Maybe Acura is going to have to do a recall!

Yeah, I really don't want them to replace my door either. The WDP is really hard to match up.

I have the same issue and made an appointment with the dealership to take a look at it. I was wondering if the dealership replaces the door, will it show up on your car history report (i.e. carfax)? Will it seem like an accident on the report or will it have a detail description of what was done (i.e. manufacturer defect)?

This looks like something bigger than an alignment issue. The perimeter of my door is aligned perfectly to include the window frame. The real problem appears to be the door size is designed and/or manufactured incorrectly.

yea, saw a 4G parked today, took a peek.. same thing

must be a design flaw.... recall? highly unlikely... unless its proves to be dangerous

... "the abrupt change in wind-flow and aerodynamics was caused by the gap in the door.... causing me to swerve and crash the car".....

Probelm will be when you sell car they will know the door was replaced and could make trade or resale harder, if you plan on keeping it 5+ years that is fine, but I woudl leave factory panels along. I bet the blend the paint into the front and panel and rear door thius having paint on those panels as well.

I too noticed the same problem with my first 2009 SH-AWD, in fact not only was it noticeable on top but in the bottom by the under spoilers, the door was a bit outward after closing it. I'm in a different SH-AWD and this one seems to be buit completly different, everything aligns just right. I think the fix is in the hinges but I'm not expert.

Just wanted to update...since the dealer wouldn't do anything about it , I decided to adjust it myself. 2.5 hours of adjusting later and it is as straight as an arrow.

Melba, what was the dealer's reason for not taking care of it? I would like to know because I'm bringing in my car to fix the door as well. Thanks.

Yeah I'm interested to hear the reasoning as well...our drivers side front door was crooked as well....we noticed it and they told us to bring it up immediately....they worked on it for awhile and discovered the trim on top of the door was what was off, not the door itself. They ordered a new peice of trim and had it put on ASAP...they also replaced our drivers seat, the stitching rubbed against the seatbelt and had started to come apart..

I brought the car in for service and mentioned about the crooked door. Dealer said its the design and all the TL's were like that. I checked the ones in the showroom and the ones parked outside and all were like that...

Took my 4g in last week and the dealership was able to correct the trim alignment issue. They said they just removed the chrome piece and reattached. Looks perfect now.

Minor issue, I wouldn't worry about it. Factory is factory. It doesn't affect anything other than the keen eye of the owner. I have it, I don't care about. I don't think anyone else should either.

used a small chisel wrapped in a teri cloth and just lifted it from the door edge. It's just held by glue. Used goo-gone to get all the residue out and re attached it using gorilla glue.

I took delivery for only a week and I noticed this yesterday. Mine is EXACTLY as you described, especially the bottom corner of the driver's door near the under spoilers. Its juts out and is not flush with the leading edge of the passenger door right behind it. The top also bows out just a hair more (not as serious as the bottom corner) and it NOT like the picutre posted by the OP. The top doesn't bother me that much as the bottom.

At first I thought it was hit in the lot and the dealer fixed it up by going to a body shop. It seems the passenger side is assembled/built so much better. With Acura's claim to fame for their quality I find this unbelievable that Quality Control would let this go out the door.

Being a Mechanical Engineer that used to be in the car industry I would not accept a new door by Acura only to have it painted by some local body shop. NOTHING matches the quality of the factory paint process let alone matching the paint. Hot phosphate bath to degrease, ionic charged primer process, baking process, blah, blah, blah. I highly doubt any body shop will have the means to do that.

Also, the other situations that others have posted may be resolved with hinge adjustments but I doubt ours can. If you adjust the lower corner to be flush, the top bow will be more pronounced. From my assessment this afternoon it seems that one of more of the sheet metal was warped when they were welded together to form the door box construction.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one and that it was not a hit and repair job by the dealer.

(BTW, great forum. The best I've found on the net. Lot's of catch up reading to do. )

Oh, I will try and post a few pictures when I get back from my business trip. Being a die hard photographer (as a hobby) I'm sure I can post some good ones.

to be honest, this is on my 2006 CSX, 2006 TL and now that we're picking up the 2011 next week. i would expect the same. lol. but as someone mentioned already, it's more of the plastic frame not matching and less of a door issue. and also, not sure if this makes sense but the front fender should be slightly outward compare to the driver door, and the driver door is slightly outward to the rear doors to avoid wind noise from getting into the seams...its the exact same on my GLK cept the plastic is aligned properly but that car's got issues much more than misaligned trim, lol
