Anyone know how to remove a gas cap tether?
Ive been getting the occasional and seemingly random "tighten gas cap" message. It usually goes away quickly and the cap always feels tight. I have bought a new cap anyways but I cant seem to figure out how to remove the old one. The new cap comes with a tether already attached to it. So I need to remove the old tether from the gas door of the car. I've tried gently prying it up with a flathead screwdriver and squeezing it with needle nose plyers and nothing. Does anyone know how? Thanks in advance.
Heres some pictures of what im talking about.

I have tried pushing on that. it doesn't seem to push through or move at all. Not sure if it helps but heres a picture of what the new tether looks like.

Tried the brute force yankin approach and i stopped because it felt like it was about to break. So its still on there and im hoping for other suggestions.
