Transmission Swap

What would be a rough estimate of the cost of a 6spd manual transmission swap into a 2009 automatic TL. Im just wondering if its worth thinking about.

The C&D performance figures show a reduction of around .8 seconds for 0-60 time.

If you were to supercharge the car with an automatic transmission and get an additional 80whp, I bet you would have similar or less performance gains.

Also can transmissions only from the J37 engine fit or would a J35 transmission also work?

not worth it. parts + labor will probably be more than the hit you might take from trading in your 09. might as well trade in for a 2012

Check the 3G section - there are a few people that have done the MT swap over there. They can give you a good idea what kind of cost you're looking at.

If I happen to stumble upon a wreck with manual transmission I think I could do it for a resonable price. Or if any other transmissions fit.

Its just a thought, Im not convinced its a good idea yet.

That would be the only situation I'd might consider doing it. But even if you get the MT from a wreck it is a shit loads of labor. And if it fails on ya,

not to mention how many extra little parts you have to get to accommodate with the M/T

interior parts, wiring harness, clutch pedal, ecu, etc

and top of that the TL is so electronically fragile, you might have electrical problems too

Every one said that about the 2gtl yet it has been done. 3g guys are now doing it. Not everyone is looking to trade the car in after 3 years or is looking for trade in value. IF you arent willing to tackle most or all of the project yourself and have to pay someone to do it then prices can climb quickly into the may not be worth it, but as time goes tuners and people may be doing more of this bringing down the costs.

I did the swap (the first one) and it was WELL worth it imho.
As for costs though it could be high or low depending on if you do it or if you have someone do it. If you were smart about buying parts you could probably get every thing you need for 3-4k or less. the rest is just labor if you decide to not tackle this yourself (where it could get pricy) Hell i even looked into once putting SHAWD on my 2g. Every thing is possible, just depends on how much you really want it.

Probably not as many as one might think. and if the richie module were to be made like it is for the j32 support in the 2gtl/cl every thing is plug and play

No one said it wasn't possible. Its just not worth it. Of course its possible if you got money to blow like that. Might as well have gotten it in manual in the first place then. Fuck its cheaper even without the automatic transmission. There are also many variables.

Its not just about money. If you go to a reputable shop expect to pay more but most likely your best bet in getting what you want done right. Or do it yourself

If the LS3 and Camaro rear, why not go all out with the LS9 and ZR-1 rear.
