Strategies for lost keys far from home
Greetings. I recently purchased a 2014 TL and I am a bit freaked out over the key fob situation. I understand that you have to hit the dealer to replace a lost key fob, but what happens if you're far from home.
Let's say I'm vacationing in a remote beach town. The nearest Acura dealer is 300 miles away and I've lost my key. I'm pretty much dead at that point, right? I need to look into renting a car or start hitchhiking, true? (Back when I had normal keys I always kept a spare in my wallet.)
Does anyone have a clever back-up strategy for this circumstance? Is there any option besides carrying around both fobs?

I was concerned about this too.I was walking across the parking lot,and the slippery fob slipped out of my hands and landed on the ground.Luckily,no worries.
But what if it broke?
So for me,my solution is I took the spare one,( for driver #2} took out the battery, and have a perfect sized pill bottle that I wrapped the battery and fob in tiny bubble wrap inside.
Now I just have to find a place under the car to tie wrap or duct tape it too.Still have to do that.
I might get a spare new battery in a year or two to make sure it's not lost it's juice, and switch it out.

There is no good backup strategy, because even if you bring your 2nd key fob with you, you could still lose both fobs, lets say from losing your bags in which the other fob is stored.
So the best strategy is to try your best not to lose any fob in the first place.

Yes, if I kept both key fobs in the same place it would do me no good, but that would defeat the point.
Playing off ossaguy's plan, I could remove the battery from fob#2 and keep it in the car, then have a flat door key cut and just keep that in my wallet like I used to. That's the best I can come up with.

I haven't done this yet with my car but with my mom's 2012 Jetta TDI (prior to returning the lease) she drove all the way out without her key because it was a push start and I didn't even realize it cuz she dropped me off somewhere and the car gave no warning sound. Ended up having to meet with her and giving her the key.
I don't think there's any way of starting the car without the key in our cars. It's just technology. Not much you can do really.

There should be a backup but isn't. On my 760 you get a plastic wallet key that can open the trunk and doors. Once you open the trunk you can use the key adapter in the emergency kit to use the plastic wallet key to start your car and drive to the dealer in the event you lost your keys.
