CNet on the TL iPod Disconnect

From CNet on the TL:
The bad: The Acura's iPod interface is inconsistent with other audio interfaces in the car, and the big controller looks out of place in an upscale brand.

Yep, inconsistent. The other interfaces allow you to search. Uggah.

Compared to all those other cars that have great iPod integration? They all are lagging behind pretty badly. Finally BMW is building development work for the new iPod Out functionality in the iOS4 - hopefully Acura is not too far behind.

Contemporary Audi and Lincolns at any rate have fantastic iPod integration. The Lincoln MKZ I was driving a few months ago even found artists and tracks with pretty high accuracy by voice.

Besides, CNet presumably compares multiple vehicles.

So yes, compared to other cars.

If only you could harness that knee for power!

Oh really? The Audi's have a significantly better iPod integration than the TL? They don't provide the exact same access to the iPod (Playlists, Artists, Songs, etc)? Considering you missed the fact the TL didn't have a flat trunk, I would imagine you missed that on your test drive of the A4 as well.

And reread your quote there Audiboy:

What other interfaces on the car allow you to search? I must have missed that.

The only reason I posted was looking for clarification since your original post was devoid of any useful info. Time to put you back on the ignore list...

Haha - you like that? Used to work for a German company and went to Munich years ago and tried it out there. Has to be the best beer. Went to their website a few weeks ago and saw perfect avatar material.

The Nav, though weak, and the HDD (CD) interfaces provide better search than the iPod interface.

Seriously, take a look at what Lincoln did with the iPod. I was put-off when I first noticed it had Microsoft Sync technology, but it works really really well.

I don't think I even opened the trunk on the test drive. It just didn't occur to me, after nearly 20 years of driving AWD cars with folding seats, padded cubbies and flat trunks (both Audis and my S.O.'s Subarus fit the seat/trunk/AWD criteria, but the Subaru's rattle ferociously) that it wasn't a fairly standard thing.

I'll know for next time.

I saw a video of the bmw/ipod OS4 - your phone/ipod - uses your car's display as a second display for the iphone/ipod - color album art and everything

I'll have to check the HDD interface - i don't think I've ripped a CD yet on there. But I'm interested in the Sync technology, if its as good as they say, one more point to having tech companies move into the automotive world. I've yet to find any car that had up to date tech - they all seem to be 2-4 years behind.

Yup! I can't wait to see what that looks like, I hope more auto manufacturers do this also.
