TL Air Filter

Hello,

I am new to this forum. My question might be silly to most of you, but I have not done this before.

I just got a 2009 TL w/Tech 3.5L 2WD, I like to know how to change the air filter under the hood. When I popped open the hood, it is all covered. I would appreciate instructions and pictures as to where to start to replace the air filter.

I got instructions on changing the cabin air filter off another post, so I am fine with that. Thanks for your help.

Hey man,

This is pretty simple, just remove the plastic engine cover on the right side of the car where the intake is located, make sure you keep the clips.

Then unclip or unscrew the airbox and remove the stock filter, now drop in the aftermarket filter. Screw or clip the filter box and your all set.

Now put back the plastic engine cover back where it belongs and make sure you install the clips.

Just get rid of it altogether and put in a Takeda intake....you'll see massive improvement!

Ya got to love these new cars with all these engine covers on them. Personally I think I like to see the actual motor and all the mechanicals.
And yes they are screws that hold the box. I just dropped a K & N filter in mine a couple of weeks ago.

Pete,
How do you like it and where did you buy it from. I may be interested in doing this as well as all my other cars have CAI.

I took my engine cover off and i personally love it. Although when you take off the engine cover's, the hood look's like it's dropped. You don't really notice it unless your up close.

Funny you mention that cause I been thinking about doing the same thing. As for the hood drop. I don't know about your car, but I find my hood a "bitch" to close so I wonder if that will actually make it easier to close?
What do you think?

Did you try adjusting the hood rests around the hood latch a little higher or lower? Normally these little rubber pieces are threaded and have a turn or two of play.

The engine covers on the 2009 TL pop loose easily. I replaced my wife's stock air filter with a K&N this past weekend. It runs fine. I got the K&N from Advance Auto Parts.

The Takeda intake really makes a big difference. For a measly $250, you're adding about 14 hp/14 lb-ft torque according to Takeda. Throttle and passing response is improved. Normal cruising is quiet as before but as soon as you slam on the gas, you'll get a mean roar that'll startle nearby drivers.

Does the takeda intake work for the SH_AWD also? I looked on the site and it doesn't show anything for the 3.7.

The trick is to put your hand on the front top point of the hood and push down hard as you close it. If you just close it with your hand anywhere else and let it drop it will jam up.

Also, is the takeda intake hard to install? does it need to be done professionally?

Takeda intake install wasn't too bad at all....took me about an hour...a couple hoses gave me some trouble. If you have any doubt, let a mechanic do it.
