Replace Harddrive?

Is it possible to replace the harddrive in my '09 SH-AWD TL with a bigger one? Would I be able to replicate the navigation data? The 128 kbps rip rate of music on the drive just sucks, and I'd like to put a bigger drive in the car with 320 kbps songs on it. And would the system even play 320 kbps MP3s? So many questions, so few answers....... Has anybody out there tried it?

How much more space do you need? I think adding an ipod or a 32GB flash drive might be more cost effective.

Also it's not an off-the-shelf hard drive, it's a special drive intended for automotive use. Hardened against vibration, temperature extremes, etc. It's probably one of these, since they claim 84% market share: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Pat...HardDiskDrives
I don't think anyone's opened it up and taken a look yet.

IPOD woudl be a much cheaper option with far better playlist/navigation controls even through the IPOD integration.

Why mess with the internal hard drive, when you can just plug a flash drive in with all of your music?

I elected to get a 16GB USB drive. You'll be out $20 or so, and it's nice to be able to pop it and plug into a laptop for music updates / changes. I have an iPhone, so I do the bluetooth audio when I want Pandora or my iTunes - but I find I never use the iTunes with all my mp3s on the USB.

You SHOULD be able to burn MP3s to DVD and playback with title recognition as well - but I haven't tried this yet.

Like everyone else mentioned, just get an ipod, it's that simple. If you need 320 kbs over 128/192, then get a 160GB ipod and call it a day. An ipod acts like a hard drive anyway, it's small and can be tucked away and controlled just like the HDD. Why take a chance messing something up by swapping out the HDD? That just sounds expensive, an iPod is the cheaper solution!

The only problem with USB thumb drives is the way the Acura reads the files, it reads foles and folders in the order they were placed on the thumb drive, no sorting or anything.

Easy enough to change that though, just modify the write date...or write them in order, lol.

Much cheaper than ipod, and no stupid itunes interface!

This. After about a week with my car I bought a 160GB for the sole purpose of having 320 kbs files. My ipod is almost full which is way too much music for my everyday travels, but it is really nice to have on extended drives.

Just get one of these and you're good:

I don't know why people are buying USB hard drives, you want a spinning hard drive bouncing around in a car?

If you can find any ways to order the TLs hard drive in China.
Cause I believe those TLs equipped a 40GB or 50GB Hard drive.
