I can understand the need to have your company's cars look different from those of your competitors. The 1G TSX and the 3G TL definitely looked very different (in a good way) from any other car out there... but my question to everybody is why do you think Acura thinks this Power Plenum look is going to work? I haven't seen reactions this polarizing since Chris Bangle added the unique trunk line to the 7 Series many years ago... now almost every car sports this, so unique doesn't have to be bad.

So... will this Power Plenum look be more like the 7 Series or the Pontiac Aztek..? Finally, will this new look spell success or failure for Acura?

 

The new look will not save the MMC RL from a sailing disaster as before, the RL need of a new image and engine, more than a good design (the 2005-08 was very good looking).
The TSX on the streets looks good, even more than the european Accord, and it will sell ok, BUT VERY important will be a Type-s model for the 2010....
Same thing for the TL 2009. I'm sure it's far more better on the road than we think..

 

The 4G TL is such a debacle I cannot fathom how it was approved.

It gets worse every time I revisit the 'real' images.

Good design sells, period. What I am seeing from Acura isn't good design and I am afraid that sales will be poor until they make good design a top prioirity again and stop searching for a "distinctive" new look. Acura has always produced handsome cars, since the first Acura Legend in the 80's. I am so disappointed in the new cars, that now the only one I think works is the MDX. Just look at the upcoming/recent cars such as the C350, Passat CC, Audi A4, CTS, etc. These cars are hot sellers because they look great! (just ask Ford what happens when you produce boring, ugly cars)

 

The Passat CC is just an MB CLS knock-off. I don't know why they'd make the regular Passat though. I'm not so sure how well the TL's looks will age.

Well according to that Acura engineer in the video, Acura designed the new TL for people that want to be noticed and not blend into the crowd. I say that Acura meet that goal. According to the vast majority here on the forum, that grill will get you "some attention."
