Pop the key out and youll see a little notch where you can fit a dime or penny - pop in the little groove and twist, it'll come apart. Don't drop the buttons.

Are you sure it's completely snapped back together? I never use the slot, but noticed after I replaced my battery that it wasn't snapped completely.

I snapped it back like 10 times and it won't go back in all the way. This is so frustrating because now I can't find my 2nd keyfob. As soon as I find the 2nd I'll try that one, but the 2nd fob has no battery either.

Yeah - must not be snapped back together all the way; but you shouldn't need to put it in the slot anyway if you've got a good battery in it.

New battery should hold me for years, but you have to charge the fob here and there. I found the missing fob and changed the battery on that one and that fob won't fit. Really strange this is happening, im going to have to take a trip to the dealer for this.

Does the Fob appear to be too tall to fit now, or is it the slot? Could the battery be wrong? Very strange, but I never stick my fob in the slot. Can you put you finger in the slot, well at least open the door?

My finger fits and the key fits .25 of the way only. The battery fits and i have snapped it back together like 30 times and no luck at all.Im thinking that i had the change battery alarm on for a while and now that i have changed it i might need to reset it or something. the battery is the correct size and voltage.

What do you mean by "charging the fob here and there"

I remember when I took deliver of the TL in 09 the salesman told me that occasionally I must put the fob in the slot to charge the battery, or the battery would die out.

He's full of it, it doesn't have rechargable batteries in there. Anyway, it would be totally silly to have a charging system when the battery life is like 3 years at least.

So I took the car to the service department because the key fob stop working completely. Left it there on Monday picked it up today at 5:30 and they said the car was ready and they fixed the problem, they said all the keyfob needed was to be reset. I got home and I get the message that I needed to pull pull out the keyfob, the car won't lock or open the doors. I'm pissed cause I have to go thru this all over again and take the car back to the service department.

I believe the Kia Sportage (and likely others in the lineup) have such a charging system. It's tucked away in the armrest console. When the dealer first advised me of it, I think I misunderstood, as I understood him to say that if the vehicle battery were ever to go dead, one could start the vehicle if the fob was left in the port for a few minutes (I know...it probably makes no sense, but my understanding of electrical engineering is limited. Besides...they're Korean. Those guys are smart.)

I believe the KIA system is set up so that if the battery goes dead, you can give the fob a charge to continue using it's features.

Seems to me on the TL, where so much is controlled by the fob, having a backup system like that would be handy, regardless of how long the battery lasts.

Missing button

At the risk of highjacking someone else's thread, when I bought my TL last month, I noticed that the fob for Driver #2 was missing the "Trunk" button (actually, the button cover). After reading this thread, I decided to pop the fob open to see how difficult it was; that's when I noticed how easily the button covers fall out with the cover off.

That's when I realized how easy it would be to fix, if I could get my hands on the button cover. I can't buy the button cover, but would have to replace the entire fob. But if anyone finds themselves with a damaged fob that they have to junk, PM me and perhaps I can take a button off you.

The funny thing is that neither of the fobs are working and my car sits with doors wide open for the taking. I'm heading there first thing in the morning. The TL does not have any other way to charge the fob, the only backup system I know of is the 2nd fob. I was thinking of locking the car from the inside but then I won't be able to open my car.

Lock from the inside, and then use the pop-put key to unlock tomorrow.

I used to be on an Oldsmobile forum for my old car, and a guy once wrote in that he was locked out of his car because the battery died on his fob, and only after calling the tow-truck (but before it arrived) did he realiize there was a key on the fob too. It's easy to get used to the conveniences.

^^^^^ the TL with the tech package has keyless entry so if I lock it I'm screwed. There is no keyhole on any of the doors.

I think the drivers door has a slot for the actual key that slides out of the fob.? Right?

I don't mean to sound insulting, but where do you suppose the key goes, then? Just the glove compartment?

It has to have an outside keyhole...that's the only way "valet mode" would work.

How stupid of me, the driver door does have a keyhole. So used to the tech package that I completely overlooked that.

You can unlock the drivers door with the physical key, and use the fob dock to operate the car.

Is your fob showing a blinking light when you push a button?

Just got back from the service department, they replaced the key fob slot on the car. It was defected and Brocken and would not hold then key in the slot. The foreman who is a friend showed me the part and confirmed with me that indeed it does charge the battery when the fob is in the slot. The slot does have a built in charging station.

I don't know how it works but I used a standard 3 volt battery, I did not ask how it works but it's all in the slot.

From my owners manual, page 194:

"Inserting the remote does not charge the remote battery. You should replace the battery as soon as possible."

Its the section talking about low battery in the remote. The battery in the remote is NOT a rechargeable battery. Also, there is nothing in the remote that suggests it comes in contact with something in the slot that can charge the battery. The manual states the battery lasts roughly two years, when you see the "Change Keyless Remote Battery" in the MID, change the battery.

I need a battery too. I just popped mine open for the first time.
Just for reference, the battery is a: CR-2032 / 3 volt

I know my signature says 07 TL but I'm talking about my wife's 4G key fob

Radio shack batteries are garbage. They don't last more than a year. My experiences with it. I go to Rite Aid / Durane Reade to get some Duracells.
