Damages on your 4G
Damages on your 4G
Today's snow storm got the best out of my 4G today. I walked outside to shovel my car out of the snow and i noticed that the weight of the snow on the outside of my car actually dented the rear end of the car. Im assuming that's what happened since ive never noticed that before until today. This isn't the first thing thats happened to my 4G though. It's been keyed on both sides of my car and since i don't have a garage or a driveway to leave my car safely overnight. I have to park my car on the streets of New York where the front of my car has also been constantly hit by those who can't parallel park without hitting the cars behind them.
I just wanted to see how many 4G's out there are still as new as the day they pulled it out of the dealership and also how they deal with it because all this is really a frustrating process.

But I live in the Boston Suburbs, and have a garage, so it's a bit easier to keep it looking nice.
I don't mean to be rude, but there's no way just the weight of snow on the trunk / rear dented the body--there's just not enough surface area for the weight of snow to build up enough force to do that. A gallon of water weighs 8.5 pounds. If you melted all of the snow on the trunk / rear, I doubt it would be a full gallon. Plus, it's evenly distributed if it's from natural accumulation...
Could a plow have thrust a big wave of snow onto the car? Or maybe someone from the neighborhood leaned on it or something?

Possibly but i've never noticed it until today, so thats why im assuming it's because of the snow. The plow does sound very plausible though.
No matter how far away I park, there is always someone parked right beside of my car when I exit the store. I've had a lady rear end my TL at a stoplight and had to have a new rear bumper installed. Mysterious scratches tend to show up overnight. Then again I have CBP so EVERYTHING shows up lol.

I've had my 2010 SHAWD for 3 weeks now. On day 10 of ownership I hit a snowdrift on the highway going 60ish causing $1500 in damage. Bumper skin, turn signal, fog light and misc grill and clip parts. Very sad day
Not really that bad tho. Just being a baby!

Reminds me of a funny story that happened to me. I always park far from anyone even at work. In previous job I was in a meeting and security comes to get me saying my car was in an accident. I'm like, huh, can't be my car, but I go with them to humor them and find.....

Turns our company security person passed out patrolling parking lot and t-boned my car!! It pushed it almost 90 degrees out of the spot! Security guard was fine, my car had $8K in damages and was never the same, I sold it about 2-3 weeks after I got it back!
Turned out to be blessing as Chrysler makes crap this car was in shop 5 or 6 times in 20 months for eveything from burned out power window motors, warped rotors, etc. Caused me to move up to Infiniti then Acura from there, so I guess fate played a roll.

My 4g Looks the day it was new. It takes LOTS of effort. I have 3 cars so, my 4g does not do daily driving. I keep it in a driveway and covered at a friends house when I am not using it. I ride a bicycle to work when the weather allows. My 4G sees no snow days on the street. That is what my Nissan Frontier is for and its also as new as the day I got it. MY 4g has clear bra, I use bumper bager, and door defenders where needed.(http://www.bumperarmor.com/). I do a professional detail in the sping, in and out. I park far away when parked at malls and never park anywhere where young people will be (movie theater. Hip hoop clothes store, etc). I do not drive near ANY trucks or buses, and use the hwy as little as possible. Last but not least, I take my car to the dealer as little as possible and make them walk around my vehicle to show there are no scratches and I expect it back the same way. After a new bumper and paint repair on my former TSX my dealer knows I mean business. So, yea, its hard work to keep any car perfect and you will not win the battle 100%, but I have done well.
Car's definitely collecting some scrapes and bruises.
I kerbed one wheel while parallel parking in impatient traffic.
Somebody backed into the rear bumper in a parking lot and took off...while I was sitting in the car. This would've been funny except for the visible scrape in the bumper.
And if anybody asks you the answer is, yes, you can definitely run down a Cummins Turbodiesel while communicating with the local constabulary via Bluetooth.

Mine is like new
Of course, I've had it for less than a month so...
It's kinda chilly in JAX this year (so much for global warming) but no snow either.
Regarding the dent on the rear end, just curious, you did know that the trunk is creased front to back down the middle, right? The car comes with a built in plumber's crack, just saying...
I put a nose mask on my previous Acura, which I traded in after 37K miles. Not a single chip, scratch, or dent on the front bumper. Not sure if it was the Zaino, but the rest of the paint was also flawless except for the passesnger door ding, no doubt collected in my office parking lot.

I've had my car 7 months. I always park in what I call "end spots" in parking lots so that at least one side of the car is protected. As I was pulling into one of those end spots, I scraped the bottom of the front bumper on the curb. I was sick over that one. At least you can't see it unless you get down to eye level. As if that wasn't bad enough, a week or two later I scraped the other side pulling out of the driveway as the front end bottomed out. Now I have a 1992 Celica which appears to sit lower and I don't believe I have ever hit bottom pulling out of the driveway. I really have to pull out very slowly with the TL.
Since I have 2 cars, I try to not drive the TL when I'm going some place where the parking situation will be questionable. I also didn't drive it for 2 weeks during the blizzard that we had in Baltimore in early February.
Speaking of not driving the car for 2 weeks, is it harmful to the car to let it sit for so long? I did run the engine for about 15 minutes once during the 2 week period...

i feel your pain. I've had an 05 TL, 09 TL, and 08 MDX. All black.
I dont know what it is about these cars but they attract damage like nothing I've ever driven (Nissan). I swear, if a fly lands on my MDX, i get a dent. No matter how careful I am, I get dents - i wont even allow my wife to take teh MDX to the grocery - the gathering spot of heathens and savages who bash cars with doors and carts

It's very easy to scrape that plastic air deflector on the underbody, especially if you tend to stop when the tires hit the parking bumper. Pretty sure it's a cheap and unimportant part, but makes an awful noise. I always try to park short, but on the other hand you don't want the rear end to stick out or people are more likely to bump you in a parking lot.

My luck just never ends

Well, I had no real damages on my car, until the other day when I was parallel parking on a very steep incline. (6MT btw). When I was pulling forward, the hill assist didn't kick on like I had expected, and I ended up rolling back into the front license plate of the car behind me
No damage on their side, but the screws holding the license plate in put a few small gouges in my rear bumper, I used some touch up paint to make it less visible... Ugg....

first accident i rear ended my friend sliding down an icey hill, $3k in damage including a new front bumper, front right fender, front right headlight, and headlight bulb. now some kid backed up into my car in a nearly empty parking lot a couple nights ago and left a nice big hole in my rear bumper. thankfully he left his info on my windshield since it was like 3am when it happened, i guess some people still have some dignity and sense of responsibility. ill be going to get an estimate tomorrow, most likely just a new rear bumper and one reflector. this is gettin rediculous after only having her for 6 months
Well parking away from everyone has not saved me again, seems I met a friend for dinner last night and I parked on the far side of the parking lot, he parked next to me. I come out and find a 1 foot long key mark down the side of the passenger door! I understand why people flip out and do nasty things to people, becasue PEOPLE SUCK! Someon had to walk out of their way to key my car, oh well can't wait to see how much repainting the door will be. Wish I were closer to lease end I would leave it, but I have 18 more months! God I hate these idiots, just once I wish one woudl get caught and have the crap beat out of them!!

People just suck! Getting quote today, just glad it is 17 months old and not brand new, ironically I came close to swapping into a G37 last weekend so glad it was nto my 1 week old G that got keyed, btu my 17 month old TL!

Glad it is a lease!

Oh well, 12-15 inch long deep key scratch will run me about $800 to repair, seems they need to repair it since it is down to metal, and then paint and blena dthe door. Since door needs to be primed and painted 4 days without my ride! Bummer, I hope the bastard that did this gtes hit by a bus and dies a slow death....
Glad it is a lease!

2K mile Update
I originally settled for this TL from a bunch of really nice high end $50-$60K cars. I bought it purely from a pratical ($$$) standpoint. I was not 100% comfortable for the first few weeks. Back was hurtings and arms were tired etc.
Now at 2K miles and the car has been properly broken into, it is a blast to drive. Finds out, the back ache was due to picking up our 5 month baby.
The sound system is excellent, Shawd is awesome on the twisties, Exhaust sounds great when I punch it, love the little compartments, fit and finish is beautiful, so many compliments from friends and clients, and overall I feel that I got a great deal. Ohhh... WDP/blk is an excellent combo. I'm impressed with the paint so far. Seems to hold up against rock chips very well.
Like it so much, we are getting rid of the 2010 Rx350 and will be picking up the new MDX. A couple of dealers are offer pretty good deals and just waiting to decide who to buy it from.
Life is Good! What Beak?

I have about 4k miles on my TL. Last week I was backing out of my garage and backed into my motorcycle(yamaha road star warrior)
. So now I have a nice 12in scatch on my rear bumper
. I have a two stall garage with 2 bikes and two cars in it. So I always have to move stuff around to get certain vehicles in and out. I forgot to move the bike back to its spot before I backed out. I guess I should of waited for the rear view camera to load before i backed out.

Sorry to hear about your ride, Keith. I'm confused....you said that you parked on the far side of the lot and your friend parked next to you.....are you sure it wasn't your "friend" that did it? Anyways, something tells me you won't be in your car much longer after it's been "violated." I know the feeling well.....several years ago, my 545i was vandalized and even after it was repaired, I never had the same feeling for the car as before and I soon got rid of it.

My plan is to keep car until year end, want to use it for a long trip I'm taking over Thanksgiving, but when I get back the itch will surely need to be scratched by then
So new story today....
So last night i moved my car from it's parking space and my sister's scion tc just to leave enough space so that my mother could move our car's to fit her lexus when she come's home from work at four in the morning. I looked at my car after i moved it just to make sure everything's okay. So i wake up this morning and i find that my front plate is in my room and it's bent in. I ask my mom what happened and she said she found my plate on top of my hood and that she couldn't park in between my TL and my sister's Tc because some jackass too close to my sister's tc, so she couldn't move it back. So when i walk outside to put the plate back on the car. I look at the hood and you could see where the guy threw the plate and it's holder on top of the hood to where it slid and finally stopped. Leaving a good scratch where i can actually pick the paint off with my thumb.
I love the area where i live and how inconsiderate people are...

Damn! Sorry to hear that. And you wonder why people leave NYC. (I grew up in Manhattan but my Acura Integra was always garaged, which introduces a different set of problems. Bump nicks by the half ass attendents.)
