'Check Fuel Cap' 2010 TL SH-AWD
Hey everyone, I'm starting this thread because I need help diagnosing this issue with my 2010 TL. The previous owner of the car informed me that this issue has been going on for awhile but didn't seem to be affecting the performance of the car, but I've found it to be very annoying and distracting while I'm driving. My assumption is that the issue is with the actual gas cap since it appears to be slightly worn (having grey markings on and between some of the lower threads) and since the area around the fuel cap was covered with dirt. After cleaning out most of the dirt today and taking the car out for a drive I thought I might've fixed the issue but the message came back on when I accelerated from a red light (albeit a bit aggressively). Which was the first time the warning has come back on in awhile. Since there was no actual code and just a message to check the fuel cap I'm guessing that the issue isn't with the pcv valve or purge canister solenoid valve, but if I see an actual code come up that'd be my next step after changing the fuel cap.
BTW does anyone happen to know the part number for the fuel cap on my car or have a link to it? I think I ended up buying the wrong one. Thanks!

Keeping TL until 2029
Considering the age of the car, I would also check this:

If the gas cap doesn’t work for you it’s probably your purge valve that’s what fixed my issue
it’s crazy how much the price increased since Covid
I paid under $100 now it’s a lot higher

Just grabbed an oem one off ebay, fingers crossed this fixes the issue. If not I'm thinking its either the pcv valve or some minor leak in the system... If its the later thing I'm probably just gonna leave it tbh since I don't feel like paying for a smoke test.
I'll add an update later if the purge valve fixes the issue!
