Break-in oil

My SHAWD is due for its first oil change in two weeks, based on elapsed time of one year since purchased new. Problem is it has only 3000 km on it so far, and I'm concerned about removing the factory fill break-in oil with such low mileage. Does anyone know if Acura sells an additive package for this situation? I'm aware of the tendency for some 3.7's to burn oil, and want to do everything possible to avoid this (other than a quick 9,000 km trip!)

read the owners manual!
it will tell you what to do in this case!

break-in oil just has more zinc than normal oil, FYI.

  1. What is motor oil with zinc?
The anti-wear additive simply referred to as zinc by most car enthusiasts is actually short for Zinc DialkylDithiophosphates or ZDDP. Its primary role is to prevent metal-to-metal contact between engine parts by forming a protective film. Despite being referred to as zinc, this additive actually contains zinc and phosphorus, with phosphorus performing the anti-wear function in the motor oil with zinc.

I did in fact read the owner's manual. It states oil should be changed after one year, even if the service A has not come up. My question was whether or not Acura sells the break-in oil for my situation, where the mileage is so low.

in your case, you should change the oil, SINCE it's been one year, according to the owners manual.

if you are really concerned, pick up some redline 5w-30, as it's one of the best oils that has lots of ZDDP, and ZDDP is what is in break-in oil.

First you say iron, then you say zinc. Both are incorrect.

This has already been covered in this thread.

Thanks EE4Life. I doubt dealers will stock the factory fill, so I guess I'll have to take my chances with regular oil to keep the warranty intact. At the rate the miles are piling up, I may never reach the point where oil consumption might be an issue anyway!

I think you will be fine.
I had my first oil change done earlier in terms of mileage as well... just not as extreme as your but I am not experiencing any problems. I think I was at 20%.

My old 11 Ody, was the same. I was probably at 30% at the first oil change.

Not driving your car to keep the miles low is like not having sex with your wife so it'll be great for the next guy -Sunny

Wait... you guys have sex with your wives?

Oh damn... I am going to stop here before I get labeled as a sexist or a misogynist.

Some of us changed the factory fill before the suggested time. I think the majority of breakin will happen the first 2000 miles so you should be good at 3k miles. I changed my oil at 5k miles after 6 months. I wanted to run synthetic ASAP.

There is no need for the break in oil anymore. Get your oil changed. And you dont have to use regular oil to keep your warranty in tact
