Brake / Start Button Interlock

My 2013 TL SH-AWD has been having issues with shifting out of park once started (and brake depressed) which I bypassed with the manual release. Now the start button won't start the car and the shifter will not release. I did have an issue once where I pressed the start switch to turn on accessories to close windows and the car attempted to start without the brake depressed. I'm thinking I have a bad brake switch. I didn't check the brake lights but surely they would be affected also.
Question is, does the brake switch serve as an interlock to the start button and the shift release?

If you're lucky, the pad broke off #7. if not, you may need to replace #5 the switch itself. https://www.oemacuraparts.com/v-2013...chassis--pedal

Thank you for the response. I went ahead and ordered the brake switch assembly from Rockauto. ~$50 + shipping. Should be in today. Looks east to access and all it is is a switch assembly and keeper device. I'm expecting a quick fix, but I always do and then......

I was able to remove and install the new switch before my beer got cold. I did verify that the brake light were not working prior to starting. Some points to ponder. The part came with a keeper device, the white piece in the pic above. It turns 90deg and slides off. I saw this same part on my existing switch and assumed I would have to release it to get the switch out but there was no access to turn it. Instead, I removed the cable from the switch and rotated the switch 90deg and removed it. The "keeper" remained in the bracket so I just stuck the new switch in a rotated it to lock it in. No adjustment needed. Plugged the cable in, replace the panel under the dash and called it done. All works fine.
So, if your start button is not working, and you can't shift from park, and your brake lights aren't working, this is the fix you need for all these issues. The brake light switch serves as the interlock for all these functions.

I've never heard the term "keeper device". I Googled "keeper device" and nothing electrical related came up. Is there another name for it?
