Press the start button w/ brake depressed, and only accessory lights come on :(
Sooooo I've had this happen a handful of times, and wanted to know if anyone else has experienced my issue: I have the TL SH-AWD w/ Tech package (2009, 84k miles on it), so I have a push button start. So we know how that works: push the brake in, push the button, boom, the car starts..... except when it doesn't.
I have had the same issue 5+ times now, most recently last weekend. I can not press the brake pedal down no matter how hard I try and I also cannot move the shifter from P to D, and thus, when I push the start button, only my accessories come on.
Now, I'm no weak girl - my legs are pretty strong, and even w/ all my force behind it, I can't push the brake in. I had the significant other get in the car, put all HIS force into depressing the brake, and still no luck. He finally had to muscle/force the shifter from P to D. Not good for the car.
So, my question is, what the heck is going on here? My dad works on Jags, and is familiarizing himself w/ Acura's, and mentioned something about a transmission lockout. He also said that by the repeated forcing of the car from P to D, I've probably broken something, if it wasn't already broken previous (which it had to have been, right?).
The car is currently as the dealership getting this issue looked into - and my tech is good, and has never heard of this happening. I have a feeling it's going to hurt my wallet.
Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Got stuck in "P" the other night, while I was at the atm machine. This time, I could depress the brake, but not move the shifter - it was like it was locked in place. Car was running, I was pushing on the brake, and I'm stuck in "P." This is starting to worry me - what could possibly be going on?
Since the dealership couldn't recreate the issue, they couldn't fix anything.
So what am I supposed to do?

next time it starts happening, make a video of it and take it to the dealership. are you still under warranty? NEVER EVER FORCE IT INTO ANY GEAR. there should be a slot next to the gear box where if u use a flat head screwdriver or a key, you should be able to release the gear box if anything should get stuck, i'll look for it today and post a picture of it for you.
only issues ive had with the car not starting up right away is when i dont start up the car right after i get in, the car auto locks and i dont unlock it before starting.

scroll down untill you see the 2009 acura TL center stack picture, and look at that little pop out hatch, should be able to open that and push something to unlock the gear box, and if what justnspace said is correct, the dealership should be able to cover it.
some info i found looking at other sources:
"I meant check that the brake lights are working not reverse lights. You should with the ignition key to the "run position" hear a slight click inside the center console beneath the radio if the brake lights work and the shift lock inhibitor is sending a signal to the shift lock solenoid. I have seen the brake light switch fail intermittently causing difficulty getting out of Park. The brake light switch is the most common failure that causes this problem ,but if coffee or soda gets spilled in the center console I have seen the shift lock solenoid fail."
from the manual:
Turn the ignition switch to the
START (III) position or on models
with keyless access system, press
the engine start/stop button to set
STARTMode (see page ). If
the headlights do not dim, check
the condition of the fuses. If the
fuses are OK, there is probably
something wrong with the
electrical circuit for the ignition
switch or starter motor. You will
need a qualified technician to
determine the problem. See
on page 606.
you may also want to check your fuses aswell.

may sound like a shot in the dark but is your battery ok? if it is more than 2 years old it could be that. my car did the same thing and turned out to be a bad battery. Picked up a new one at Auto zone and it has been fine ever since. just a thought.

Next time it happens, with someone there to check, have them check to see if the brake lights come on when you press the brake. Hondas have been known to have bad brake light switches. This could cause the issues you are having.
