I recently purchased a 2014 TL w/Tech pkg. I love the car. One problem that I have is that when it is raining or even wet outside, the auto unlock (using the door handle) function does not work. I then have to pull my keys out and unlock the car using the remote. Of course, I am getting wet standing in the rain while trying to fish my keys out. When it it dry outside, the function works perfectly. I can't figure out a logical reason why this is happening. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I would try your other remote. This way we can eliminate the remote. Often low batteries in the remote will cause this problem. Next I would try the passenger door. Will either of your remotes create an unlock condition on the passenger door? Let us know what happens.

 

 

Well, I got a new remote battery yesterday. We'll see what happens when it rains.

 

I have about a 5% "failure" rate with my auto-unlock, regardless of the weather. I have no idea why. I might try replacing the battery as well but it doesn't seem to matter which remote I use - still does it. It's certainly not a deal killer or some huge inconvenience but it's certainly weird that it occurs completely randomly. Maybe it has to do with some sort of wave interference. It's the aliens I tell ya.

 

I had this issue WAY back. For me, the unlock was intermittent on the passenger side handle and one day, it just stopped working. Luckily I got it fixed via warranty. I would double check that the lock/unlock features work on both sides to determine if it;s a handle issue or a reception issue. If it's reproducible, I would take it to a dealer to get it fixed if you still have warranty on it.

 

I've had this same issue, so I started doing some analysis. What I have discovered is that whenever I reach for the door handle and I have something metal in my hand, it will not unlock. No metal, unlocks just fine. Whether it's my car keys, a roll of solder, etc. I have no idea why this is. I have not tried this with a gold wedding ring but am curious if this would also prevent the door from unlocking.

 

After more research on this issue, I have discovered the problem: I am an idiot.

If you grab the door handle toward the rear, the door will not unlock. If you grab the handle toward the front, the door will unlock. The sensor must be toward the front, close to the hinge. Whenever I try to open the door with something metal in my hand (i.e. something heavy), I instinctively grab the door as far away from the hinge as possible in order to get more leverage. So it was a coincidence.
