Whoever "passed" that new design at the drawing board in the acura think-tank mine as well look for a new job because TL sales are going to fall flat on their face. Poor car....

I'm not sure if they'll jump to a 3.7L motor on the base TL, perhaps the Type-S if and when it is released, 3.5L is most likely in store.

The 3G TL is the first car I've owned that I liked everything about how it looks, both inside and out. It's flawless.. sublime.

It has class which, unlike in a lot of other cars in its segment, is not presented in an obnoxious or pretentious way through the appliqué of big swaths of chrome or bug-eye headlights/taillights (what many vehicles with projector headlights end up resembling). It's a car for those of us who want to make a statement of taste and refinement without being an attention whore about it.

For these and other reasons, the 3G TL will likely always be in my driveway.. one way or another.. but this 4G thing? Hmm.. let's see how much they've upped the gaudiness and cranked up the attention-whore volume. I'm hoping for not too much, but the very busy rear end is doing wonders to diminish that hope. A good interior, however, could save it.

We should resign ourselves to the near-fact that there's no love quite as strong as the first. If you love the 3G TL as I do, you'll probably never love anything that comes after quite as much.

'09 TL pics (latest) - BRAKES are coming.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/wp-conte...11&idg=1&idi=9

Note the larger rotors -particularly in the rear.

That's a good thing, since by '07 TL automatic (nearly 3,700 pound curb) is lacking in the braking area.

The '09 TSX now has the same size brakes as the standard '08 TL (11.8" F/11.1" rear), even though the TSX is a lighter, less powerful car...

you know...remove the tape off the tail lights and the back door window, put on some

It looks like a Maxima from the side...

The new TL is going to need AWD (optional), decent size brake rotors (like the one depicted in the photo I posted), a 6 speed automatic (and a manual option) and 300+ HP in order to remain competitive in its market segment.

The problem with that is weight. The RL weighs in at 2 tons and that uses aluminum suspension components that the TL won't use due to cost considerations.

Thus, the new TL - in AWD configuration (assuming it's offered) can be expected to weigh in at more than 2 full tons. 300 HP isn't enough in that case...

Due to weight transfer, a FWD car does most it's braking on the front wheels (rotors), so there is no need for large rear rotors. However, only on RWD or AWD cars do they need large rear rotors, is this hinting something from the spy shots ?

God that is one ugly bitch. It is obvious the grille will be identical to the chrome monstrosity they put on the TSX. Makes me feel better about buying a 3G.

I think the rear rotor is part of the fake parts, tape and paint on the car for the spies to see. It really looks like its stopped exactly where the spies can see the test track and get pics for the magazines.
Note the same tiny caliper will not be any more effective with larger rotors!
AWD has been long been rumored as an option for the 09s since they already use it on 2 other models

Whatever it takes- awd- ESP- sensors that tell the car to apply a brake or adjust throttle when the untrained driver does the quick lane change evasive move.
I recall a ziner last winter in gen3 did a fast toss to the right and try to get 4 lanes over to make the exit, in the snow and ice, with a truck coming up on the right side.
He was surprised at the engines sudden rev limit and power reduction and the brakes seeming to have a mind of their own-
I believe the title was- My car nearly killed me!!!
If only it was mandatory for a written and skills test to buy one of these thinking cars~

The drivers hand position in pic is interesting too, never seen anyone drive with right hand looped behind the wheel~

Honda (and Toyota) really have no creative bone left in their body - zero, nil, 000, zilch, nada, null, zippo - baffling!

funny how for every person who complains about honda and toyota styling theres millions more who actually buy the cars. gotta mean that styling 'critics' dont know what they are talking about when it comes to sales.

Key purchase factors by brand:
Honda/Toyota = dependability
Acura/Lexus = dependability + performance
BMW = Performance
Benz = Social status + performance

Frankly, I do not think styling is a key purchase factor for any vehicle of any price range. Hence, Honda and Toyota will keep doing well. However, styling will always be a strong sway factor when dependabilty, performance and price are close among competing vehicles.

Bottom line: If the masked photos are real, what's wrong asking for sick TL to match or exceed its predecessor?

you're relying too much on what you think you see behind the static car cover tape. I am almost certain that we wont be getting tail lights like that.

i still have faith, but i've already decided i'll just end up saving up to get s/c'd and wait for a 4G TL-s

Take a look at the 13" dia rear rotors on the new Ford Taurus (front drive)...

For that matter, take a look at the brakes on the 2009 Acura TL in the pics I posted.

OF COURSE THERE IS A NEED FOR LARGER REAR ROTORS IN THE CURRENT TL! I know because I own an '07 TL Type S automatic and the car had no real stopping power at elevated speeds.

It needs larger front AND rear rotors. Rear brakes are LESS significant in a front drive car due to the weight bias on the front end. That doesn't mean that the rear brakes are insignificant in a front drive car, though.

The all new, 2009 Acura TSX now has the same size brakes (11.8" F/11.1" rear) as the (older design) base TL, which is a heavier and faster car.

The new Accord's rotor diameters increased substantially over the previous gen car's (now also 11.8"/11.1").

The current RL uses 12.6"/12.2"...

Brake rotors have been growing substantially on an industry-wide basis for the past 4 years.

The TL Type S's rotors are quite small, relative to the competition, and these brakes feel marginal at best in my '07 TL-S automatic.

The realities pointed out above lead me to conclude that the rear rotors depicted in the photo are quite real.

The new California Acura design studio is setup specifically to differential between Honda and Acura products. Unless everybody falls asleep in there, otherwise the new TL should never look like any Civic coupe from the back.

It is going to be one ugly TL!!! Back looks like a Civic...side view looks something in between a Toyota Camery or a Nissan Maxima and the front looks somewhat like the MDX. Don't Acura have it own originality here?? The 3rd GEN TL was the best thing Acura has done for a very long time and they have to ruin it with this very disapointing looking 4th GEN TL.
