2009 Acura TL/CL Type-S-Merged Threads-All 2009 topics will be merged here

These pictures confirm what I had seen on the ppt presentations about the 09 TL at the dealership and explains why I decided to stick with the 09 TSX instead. I don't like the short (very short) trunk lid, but that is my personal choice but I don't think seeing in the flesh is going to make a huge difference for me. I am sure it will grow on me after a while because I tend to get used to a new design pretty quickly, providing it offers something to fall in love with....

When I saw the 04 TL at a car show I was sold. I have since owned WDP and SSM. When I look at this spy shoot, I keep saying to myself, PLEASE let there be tons of tape on this car hiding its beauty. I don’t want to say I HATE it because we really have not seen it completely unmasked. I will keep my fingers crossed for Acura and just keep my eyes and not my money on Audi for now.

I know it's not a CLS but if that is what Acura is aiming for, they have company as both Porsche and Audi are trying to bring cars with similar lines to the market. I personally like the CLS but feel the inside is a bit too confining. The price tag also starts around $65K

It will be interesting to see how many " haters " of the car, which still has tape on it btw, will purchase one at the end of this year or next year. I believe this happened with last car before 04 right? Where's that thread...

My integra LS was pretty much the same car..but look how much bigger the TSX is now.
Look at the 2Gen TL dims to the 09 dims when they come out...you will clearly see a dramatic change.

I think that EVERYBODY (the dealers) who have already seen it unmasked back in April ALL said that it was an attractive, futuristic-looking car. To me, that says that Acura may well have adopted the "4-door coupe" "trend" that the CLS started. Porsche followed with the Panorama, VW copied with their CC and Audi is planning for it's next A7... Seems like a no-brainier to me.
Regardless, I'm still hoping that the car turns out alright.

BBP Boreaus Blue Pearl the new AM Anthracite Metallic? OMG YES YES YES YES YES
sigh, i thought the lights would look better...the overall rear is done pretty well, but the lights...i mean those trapezoidal lights...are gone![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
actually i was thinking...alot of us are in our 20's/30's....what if we're starting that transition where we're already sticking to the "old" (3G
) style...and having a hard time accepting this "new" style that seems to be a recurring theme around all the new cars? ~ a bit of a reality check really.
i dont doubt the TL will sell, but everything just looks like they cut and pasted and used lego bricks to build the car T.T
i'm willing to bet tho, an A-spec'd 4G will look GREAT..and the way the bumper sits...who knows...maybe it won't be a lip and a full bumper replacement?! lol (wishful thinking)
the 2G TSX Aspec looks very nice.

I'm really starting to dig the 4G....I hope they keep those GM 5 spoke wheels...I like 'em.
The only thing that is slightly ungainly is the fat Maxima-like rear end....not sure that works. Otherwise, it looks promising!
....and they'd better release a Type S!!!

Let me just clarify that I did not take those pics I just posted--I found them on vtec.net. I found them while laying in bed and posted them with one hand because I was too comfortable/lazy to move the other so I could type.
I definitely don't want to take credit for something I didn't do.
I like what I see so far. I'll still wait until I see it in person for final judgment.

I usually gringe when I'd hear guys shoot from the hip wiith comments like "man that is butt ugly". But after seeing the pics above....wow.....what were those Acura designers drinking? That front grill looks just plain weird and the back end reminds me of the front end of an MDX.....goofy. Belongs in a Batman cartoon.
But maybe it'll grow on me. All I know is this is the first generation TL I really dislike at first glance. The interior may be a different story, but it's hard to really see the interior in the pic above.

I'm not usually one that makes rash judgements before I see the real deal, but I have to admit that so far I'm REAL happy that I have an '07 and didn't wait for the redesign. I can't find an angle on this thing that I'm drawn to. The hood line reminds me of the Saturn LS.
And is it just me or does the back end look like it's smiling at you? (in the pic above the tail lights are the eyes and that silver strip is the mouth) It just looks weird to me all around....and real big to boot.
Oh well, I'll still wait for the final judgement, but my expectations are pretty low at this point.

I like what I see, and I'm getting one. I might not get the '09, maybe i'll wait for '10 but this is gonna be my new ride. The grill doesn't bother me, but it looks HUGE in these photos. We all know though that photos tend to exagerate images and make them look different than in person. The picture on the Acura website is probably a better representation of the actual size of the grill.

Type-S
I agree. Only, I am waiting for the new Type-S model. I haven't heard much about the future model but hope they come out with it sooner than later!
Hopefully it will kick the 335's ass!

Ok..This is the NEW info on the 2009 Type S. It's in the Sept "Car and Driver" mag. The new Type S will be equipped with a 3.7 liter v-6 making an expected 330 to 340 horsepower and will also have the SH-AWD.

Optimism never hurts, but it's going to come at a price as well as it is going to take some seriously tuned artificially aspirated torque to make that happen. Essentially it would have to be a carbon copy of the 335i sedan, but Japanese, which is what we seem to be asking for here.

Well im one who is very disappointed with the design. Sorry, im just not feeling it. It seems based on the design that ACURA has a particular demographic in mind with this car. I have a hard time thinking that younger people 18-35 would really be interested in this car. Looks to me they are aiming at the 35, and over crowd with this design. I think the reason the previous generation design was so popular, and had such strong following was because the car appealed to every one, regardless of age. Looks like my next car definantly wont be an ACURA.

People who just bought a 2007-2008 TL obviously won't like the new 09'TL.. It's not fun to drive a NEW car that looks "outdated" already. Sorry but IMO the 09 TL looks like a great package. 3.7L SHAWD w/ 19" wheels

I've been holding out hope for the TL. I've been in the Honda family for over a decade and had high hopes that I'd be stepping up to Acura for my next car. Now with the full reveal, I just can't see myself living with that thing, interior or exterior, everyday. I turn 36 in a few weeks and I can't figure out what demographic Acura is going for with this new design language. At this point, I don't see what the TL is supposed to offer to make it worth considering over either the G37 sedan or the CTS.
It lacks power, it lacks gears, and seems to be trying to just play catch-up in the tech department. Acura is last out of the gate with this generation, so they've really got no excuses for not being more competitive. And, my God, that beak!

I dont know if any of you saw the leaked pics of the China version of the TL, but on the tachometer it shows clearly that the redline is above 7000rpm. They're getting a higher reving motor than us. Lame!
