Well, 320 HP sounds like a big increase on paper, but when you give up 30% through the AWD drive train the WHP doesn't change much.

I doubt the TL will get 320 HP, even though I wouldn't complain if it did. But think about it, if the TL gets 320 HP, then what the hell would the RL get, 340-350 HP? On a V6? Yeah right. I think that Acura knows that the TL steps on the RL's toes too much, so I'd like to believe there will be more seperation between the vehicles the next time around.

320 HP for TL-S, maybe. But I'm not so sure for TL-P. Yes, Acura needs to put V8 for the RL to compete with the other big boys. Yes, indeed TL has entered into RL's territory although not 100% yet.

Judging by what Honda usually do when they change generation.....a 25-30hp bump will be in place for the TL which will put it right around 320.

You are right. Honda/Acura usually gives their FMCs 25-30 hp increases. However, times are changing with gas prices being so high and the looming recession. I'd imagine that the mileage would take a hit, look at the RDX, people were turned off by it's poopr gas mileage. So what if it's a turbo, when you think of 4 bangers you expect good gas mileage. Like I said before, I wouldn't mind if the '09 TL had 320 HP, because it would put them ahead of everyone in it's class. But it wouldn't leave much room for a base model RL (non V8) to succeed. Once again Acura would hinder the RLs chances of success, because it would be too closely compared to the TL.

I really dont think they are going to make the base TL anything more then 300 you guys are dreaming.
What they will probably do is tune the RL engine to say 306 hp just so they can utter the words "With MORE then 300 hp the new TL ___________ " blah blah blah. This will match the competition.
I think we are not even going see 320+ and the Type-S will just be top of line with all the little add ons and a 6MT just the like g35-S.

Okay, so I was at Acura of Tempe yesterday for a scheduled service and decided to do a little asking about the 09 TL. I ended up talking to one of the Sales Managers. Now, we all know we need to take their “knowledge” with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, here’s what I was told – we can expect an all new TSX in June/July, an all new RL in Aug/Sep and an all new TL in Sept/Oct. There’s also a new “full-size” SUV coming (larger than the MDX, not a replacement for it). No word on which of these cars is likely to get the new diesel announced this month.
Now, about the TL, what this sales manager “knew” was that there will be at least a version of the TL with AWD. They don’t know if AWD will be universal to the TL, or if it will only be on a “Type-S” version (or something similar). He also “knew” that there would be a horsepower boost, but didn’t know how much.
Regarding the RL, there is a V-8 coming, but the sales manager (again) didn’t know if it would be universal or confined to a particular version (or versions) of the RL.
So there you have it, everything we already knew “confirmed” by an “authoritative” sales manager at Acura of Tempe.

That the RL is not sufficiently differntiated from the TL is Honda/Acura's Fuck up. They need a V8, a bump in size and a $15k price increase. Either the RL is equal to the 5-Series/A6/GS4xx or it's a wannabe. The RL gets no respect without a V8 and a $50+k price tag. They don't sell any now, so what's the worst that couild happen.
My point about HP is this:
A SH-AWD TL with 300 HP would be A JOKE in terms of acceleration vs it's competition.
That car will have the acceleration of a SNAIL with less than 320 HP. 320 HP (SAE) - 30% Drivetrain Loss = 224 WHP. THAT'S THE SAME AS NOW.
What's the point of that? Just so you can HP on PAPER? Screw that, I want HP to the GROUND.

That's so true. It's just to be able to talk shit and say "My car can go.....", even though they will hardly ever drive fast enough to realize the hp that they have.

i seriously doubt the new TL will have less than 310HP thats just dumb...theres really no other word for it...the current gen RL has sh-awd & 300HP i seriously doubt acura will reuse that espcially with the way sales went with that RL...Acura/Honda will have cars for ppl who want gas mileage and will have cars for ppl who want to go fast...i thnk the S version on the TL will be one of those i wanna go fast and still drive everyday cars

I like to have the latest and greatest, so I can't see myself getting a base model TL knowing that there is a more suped up version available. Decisions, decisions. At least Acura finally realized that they need to give consumers options with their vehicles. In the last 2 years, we've seen Acura put more options in their vehicles than ever before and there will be more options being introduced for their future vehicles. It's about time!
i feel the same way...i know all of these extra options will up the price tag a bit but hopefully not too high into the 40Ks market

The next gen Acura TL will probably be as fast as the current Type-S. The next gen Type-S will probably be in the 320hp range....hopefully with a DOHC 3.7L V6 =)

Some mags have complained about gas mileage on the RDX but they still sell very well.
No matter what a car company comes out with....there's going to be people that wont like it or those that'll complain.
That being said.......the reason Acura has been taking a backseat to other luxury car makers is:
1.FWD
2.Low HP numbers in comparison to the competition.
We pretty much have them beat in the value, reliability, ergonomics, standard equip and so on.
Acura needs to address the 2 aforemnetioned issues to step up to the big boys.

It really doesn't matter what the HP will be if SH-AWD is added. Like mentioned before, once you add the AWD, acceleration drops drastically. I'm sure it has been mentioned how much SH-AWD affects the RL in regards to drive train loss and Dyno numbers.
Honestly, the RL should have been the size of a 740i, not a few inches longer than the TL. Honda is kind off funny and they love the V6. I could convince myself that they will add a V8 if it a small one that gives good power and gas mileage.
I think gas mileage is the key. We all want cars with a nice punch, but we also don't want horrible gas mileage. I'm averaging about 19 mpg in my TL and I wish it were much better, however, I knew that 91 octane and low mpg go hand in hand with a TL. I would hope that the new TL/RL would have engines that could provide the power yet give good mileage via technology.

What it needs.
Drive train options. (rwd/awd)
Engine options. (base at or near 300, more than 300 for top)and for gods sake, lets get some tq out of the motor already honda. Even toy with turbocharging like BMW.
Hopefully it will finally get DOHC and Chain driven cams (not belt driven)
And if top model goes for over 40+large many will be looking elsewhere, myself included.

If you're talking about BMW,MB,AUDI or Lexus.......then youre talking about even more money. If the new TL type S is over 40k.....it probably means that the competition is considerably more with far less standard options. I think Acura knows that they really gotta go the extra step if theyre going to ask for 40k+ price tags on the TL.
BTW...there are 30k accords, camrys, maximas, altimas and a slew or other mainstream cars that cost more money these days. So for a TL to stay within the 30s and give all the extra features we're all pleading for will probably not happen.

The TL is not staying in the 30's; low 30's is where top-of-the-line regular midsize cars are now. For luxury, the new threshold is ~$40k. The TL will join the G35/37, 3 Series, C Class, and IS/ES in that ballpark.
Yeah inflation.
Yeah inflation.

4g TL?
duly taking into account that it is a wagon, the front could very well be close to the 4g TL's. Opinions?

Randy is the Future
I'm kinda confused as to why everyone is thinking that the TL and the RL can't coexist with each other. The IS and GS seem to do fine and the G and M seem to do fine. All they have to do is continue to offer things in the RL that you can't get in the TL and offer a bigger engine for the RL. If they market both of the cars properly then they will be perfectly fine. I should work for Acura i would give you guys everything you wanted and bring them to the top of the list.

If you look closely at one of the spy pics you can see a center screen pod just like the MDX's. Plus Acura/Honda user interfaces have switched to that central botton found on the RL, MDX, RDX, Accord, and Pilot (New). So TL is due next to have the interface...
