I can't make a call using the Speech button

Hi,

I have an iPhone 10s ( with latest IOS ). I have paired my phone with bluetooth.

If I try to use the Speech button on the steering wheel "Call <contact>" I always get a message that asserts "Contacts have not finished loading, try again later". and the call is not made.

However if I open the phone app on my 2022 Acura Advance I can see all of my contacts and I can place a call by clicking on any of the entries. ( I have 113 contacts ).

If Ipair my gf's android phone there is no problem...

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Just to clarify here - if you just quickly push the speech button, that invokes Acura's voice command system. If your using an iPhone, I assume with CarPlay, hold the voice button a bit longer to engage Siri. Which then lets you place a normal call using Siri.

Not sure if that's your issue.

I do not have CarPlay active. A long press will show a message that asserts that no phone has been connected to a long press.

I actually have an iPhone 10s. But I will be getting a 13 Pro in early December.

hopefully it will play nicer with the Acura infotainment software.

I suggest activating CarPlay. The iPhone 10 would work fine.

I have a 2022 MDX Advance and an iPhone X. CarPlay works fine most of the time but is finicky. Most of the times as long as I have the phone out (not in my pocket) it pairs immediately with CarPlay on starting the ignition. Sometimes I have to activate CarPlay by using the touchpad and selecting CarPlay. Sometimes nothing works and the system tells me no device is available. Sometimes it asks me to Connect but won't connect to my iPhone. Sometimes I have to stop the car, exit the vehicle, lock the doors and reopen the car with the fob. Then turn on the car again. Sort of a reboot. I would say 80% of time works fine but... Dealer has no clue - has downloaded all software upgrades.

I find its hit or miss with the car or phone being used. I had the X with a Honda Pilot that constantly gave me issues. And that was with CarPlay with a cable. My iPhone 12 works pretty much 100% of the time in the MDX wirelessly.

Drives me crazy how's its so inconstant. Every car I have had, has some phone issues.

It sorta works....

I had about 115 contacts and noticed that only about 88 showed up in the auto phone directory.. I pruned my phone contact list to 87 entries and suddenly i was able to make voice activated phone calls. ( have had only one failure so far.).

I wonder if there is some small limit of contacts that can be imported, at least for iPhones....

Does anyone have a large contact list that can be imported?

I have 7,925 contacts. On my 3rd gen I set it up to import only favorites. I had a few hundred favorites. Worked great.

Hi, some questions...
1: Which iPhone are you using
2: How did you manage to import a subset of your contacts? ALL of my contacts are imported...
3: You said 3rd gen, you did mean 4th gen, right?
4: Are you sure all of you favorites were actually imported, I thought mine were all imported until I counted them in the Acura directory.
5: Can you make a call using the talk button on the steering wheel with CarPlay disengaged?

Thanks for the response....

In answering your questions:

1. Iphone 12 Pro Max
2. The 3rd gen allowed you to import a subset of your contacts by selecting favorites only. This was an option in the handsfree link on the iphone. I thought you owned a 3rd gen when I looked at your avatar.
3. See answer 2.
4. I have not investigated if you can import favorites only on the 4th gen. What I can tell you is that I get a message that the system can only import 2,000 contacts.
5. Have never tried this. Will try it out and will report back.
