Cargo Cover

Any idea if the '20 and 21' cargo covers are the same? The part numbers are different. the '21 cargo cover is almost $400 at the dealr and the '20 is like $110 after market. No on the aftermarket vendors have the '21 part number in stock yet.

I'm sure you mean the '22, but anyway...the interior dimensions of the '22 MDX are wider than the '20, right? So I'm guessing the horizontal "rod" at the base of the '20 cargo cover that connects to the sides of the car on both ends is probably too short, width-wise. My two cents.

I did mean the 22! Thanks for the info!

I have long thought this should be included with the car. You get one included in the CRV. Anyway I bought one for my 2019 MDX. It was about $400.00. It is however a fairly involved unit with 2 separate rollers of tarp that connects to the rear seat headrest, from the roller itself.

You would be correct. No carryover there.

Not only the above. Also the 2 latches that hold the cover in place in the extended position for the '22 are not the same as for the '14-'20.

Therefore, won't work.

I had the cargo cover when I had my '18. The Mrs. wanted it. For what reason, I am not sure. Decided against one for the '20. Wasn't really a fan. It does what it is supposed to do, but it rattled to no end. Couldn't keep it from rattling. It also is a pain if and when you want to use the 3rd row. Considering the width of it, sort of tough to take it down and put it somewhere if you need that third row. Especially if you are somewhere where you can't just leave the cover out of the vehicle completely.

Thanks for the info. Wife has a Stelvio that came with a cargo cover and likes the idea, but did not think about the 3rd row challenge. And the possibility of a rattle? No thanks!

You can always get the cover anytime if you like the reviews from others. Plus, prices will drop for the cover as it becomes more available online down the road. I went with the cover on my 11 MDX and 19 MDX Adv along with cargo net and all weather mat. I like the option to hide stuff in the rear hatch when shopping or traveling (out of sight, out of mind). The HUGE downside with the cover was it didn't stow in either 2nd/3rd Gen MDX with the 3rd row up (only on the floor of 2nd row). You had to plan ahead and remove the cover and leave in the garage if you needed the 3rd row that day. The +22 MDX does have a much larger hidden trunk area in the hatch. That might be a good solution to hide stuff until you decide on a cover or not.

For what it's worth (I know it's a different car), but there's no rattling whatsoever of the cargo cover in my '19 RDX.

The cargo cover has been on my 2014 MDX for years and still no rattle. But I only use the large front section and leave the rear section (the small cover that attaches to headrests of the 3rd row seat) folded up.

It is a must for me, because even though the rear windows are factory darkened, thieves can still peek inside the cargo area with the help of a high power flashlight.

Especially useful during Christmas and Thanksgiving seasons to keep all the expensive new purchases from prying eyes.

By no means should my isolated observations dissuade someone from getting a cargo cover if they want one. Mine was an add-on after a year or so after vehicle purchase. Could the install have been shoddy, thus creating rattles? It's possible. Could it be that we used all three sections, and when the sections all were extended, it rattled? Possible. Who knows. The cover does protect from viewing the contents in the cargo area, which is the main purpose of it in the first place.

Nothing beats the cargo cover on the 1st gen RDX. It was solid one-piece, and lifted up with the hatch. You could also easily remove it and stow it on the floor.

Check out https://www.oemacuraparts.com send Tim an email. The website has not yet been updated for 2022, but they have the accessories, tell Tim what you want and he will send you an email back with a link to order it. I just purchased 2nd row seat covers, Acura website says $280, getting them from OEM Acura Parts for $202 + $20 shipping and no sales tax. Ordered yesterday and they arrive this Monday via fedex.

So true, had one and it was a great idea.

I had never really considered this aspect of a SUV before, but as a new yorker it's a bit unsettling to have everything visible.
It wasn't common, but from time to time I've certainly left something valuable in the trunk as nobody is going to break into the car if there is nothing interesting visible.
Something like say, a backpack that doesn't fit in the under-floor storage.

Keep in mind in NY you can no longer have ANY added tint to any window. I had to get all my tint removed last year to pass inspection.

What do you do without a cargo cover? just throw a blanket over everything if you need to?

That's very annoying if the cargo cover doesn't fit behind the third row at -all-.
It can fit on the second row floor though? Is the trunk area that much more narrow?

Wow, is NY really that strict? Of course, here in CA there is no vehicle inspection. Also, the law here says no tint to front windows, but as long as you don't look like a criminal, it's rarely enforced. I have tint on all my cars. On my current RDX, I tinted the front to be the same as the rear, which is 20%. We are also supposed to have a front plate but again, I've never put it on in my 30 years of driving.

Can anyone who has the cargo cover comment on where it fits in the car if you need the 3rd row?

Does it fit behind the 3rd row at all? Even at a clunky diagonal angle?
Does it fit on the floor of the second row?

Just thinking about what happens if I need the 3rd row unexpectedly when I'm not at home.
