Car Cover

Even tho I have reservations about getting the TSX car cover, I am considering it.

Does the car cover have reinforced grommets to using a lock and cable?

Has anyone bought a car cover?

Some negatives that occur to me is what to do with it when it rains and the cover gets soggy.

I'm still undecided.

i bought a car cover off ebay for 39.99. I'm somewhat not very satisfied with it. I now regrat get this cheap cover, because it water leaks through it. But it still protects my car from sun ray, bird poop, dust and rain drop. I would strongly recommand a car cover if you dont have a garage.

i have the official tsx car cover. i love it. its great for protecting the car from the 100+ degrees sun. its got grommets to use a lock and cable which comes w/ the car cover, and its got elastic all around the car cover, so it fits perfectly.

i not sure, but from what crazydude is saying, he doesn't have the real acura car cover. after comparing the materials from aftermarket and real covers, i had to get the real one. its great material.

i have a car cover (from Honda made for the S2000) for my S2000 and it's perfect and will never harm the paint but it's not an outdoor cover.

Thanks, but I'm a bit confused.

One person (DEVO) says the Honda-made cover is not an outdoor cover, but another person (CraZydudE)
says the cover is great if you don't have a garage--(and therefore must park the car outdoors).

Are we talking about two totally different products, besides different car models?

That aside, I wonder how practical a car cover is when it rains. Methinks one would have a big soggy mess in the hands upon removing it, and then one would have to stash it somewhere.

The Honda made cover that I got is not meant for outdoors (I can't remember if it actually said indoor car cover, it may have said dust cover), although for the money it should (over $150). They may make an outdoor version but I knew my car was going to be inside a garage. The one that I got is made of a very soft material that does not repel (I never tried it out, but it feels that it wouldn't) water. The inside lining was designed to NOT scratch your paint. I would go on to say that if my car were dirty and I put on the cover, it probably wouldn't hurt it. I never do but I'm just saying how soft this cover is. The cool thing about the cover is that it fits the car like a glove.

I bought an outdoor (MADE for the outdoors) cover for my Integra at PepBoys... forgot the name of the brand but I spent around $40. The lining is soft, the exterior surface repels water but is breathable to allow for any moisture within to be released.

Ah, thanks, Devo! Now I understand.

My garage is not available for parking a car, so I park it in the driveway. (The homes on my street are quite old, before the dual-car garage became the norm in the Fifties.)

The official Acura car cover for the TSX is something like $175--a big jump from the $40 model available elsewhere. Many in-store catalogs for auto accessories have not been updated for the TSX, let alone 2004 models.

I don't mind spending $175.

How hard it it to get the cover off and on? Would this be something I could easily put on at night and take off during the day?

My cars is in a garage during the day, but at night and one weekends, it is parked in a lot with no cover.

Cover

I have the official TSX cover. Have been using it for about 5 months now with no ill affects. It is very easy to get the cover on and off.....on takes about 1 minute and off about the same. There are reinforced gromets for a cable to pass through.
The only thing I haven't figured out is how to fold/roll it up to put it in the trunk.
All in all a good investment if your car spends much time outdoors.
Good Luck
Todd

Thanks Todd and all.

I think I'll be inclined toward getting one. Now I have to find the best price.

Brad, I'm think of doing it too. Maybe we can get a group buy organized?

Oooops. I just bought one from hondaacuraworld.com. Cost was $175.50 plus $3.95 shipping (US domestic).

That's a lot better than autocarparts.com which quoted $181 plus a whopping $10 shipping.

And it's profoundly better than a local dealer who quoted me $247.50 plus 8.25% sales tax. WoW! Methinks that MSRP is written in granite at that local dealer! That same dealer was brazen to quote me $800 more than what another dealer quoted me for a TSX. That local dealer must have too much work on their hands and clearly doesn't want my business.

The dealer that addresses my needs with respect gets my business. Amen!

(My grandma would be spinning in her grave if she knew I paid MSRP for anything--and she's been dead for over 30 years!)

Well, there is still two of us. I think we need to get like 10 posters to agree, and then we can probably work a 10% discount or so.

Brad, I hope you enjoy the new car cover and will write and let us know what it is like.

BTW there is no "honda oem cover" I've got one for my Integra and my g/f has one for her eclipse. Other then the obvious shape and name on front the are exactly the same and made by the same company.

Interesting, Tony. That site lists a number of different fabrics. Do you know which one Acura uses? Can you recommend one?

Bringing this back from the DEAD.

Does anyone have (or can recommend) a good all-weather car cover for the TSX? It would need to fit with the A-Spec lipkit, by the way.

I live in a condo, so while my car's in the work garage during the day, it lives outside in a lot at night. I'm sick of the paint taking a beating from snow/ice every winter, so I want something that can stand up to a snowstorm.

Anyone got anything?

I splurged and bought a Technalon (Evolution) [i think CoverCraft makes them]. It's ready-fit, so it's got a little extra room on my stock, but still fits nicely and doesn't budge from the wind (it's got grommets if needed too). Would likely be enough to cover a kit. I haven't used it in the winter yet as the snow doesn't worry me as much as all the damn hail warnings! When I bought it last year or so I recall reading it was rated for small to medium hail (it's got some ok padding actually...). I mostly got it for when we've got bad weather coming as we only have a 1-car garage.

With the little extra space in there, I figure that if we get a warning for the golfball/softball sized hail I'll slide in a couple of our thermarests for extra padding and tuck the car alongside the house to protect it-- or, like a couple weeks ago, drive it to a secure parking garage nearby and wait it out!
