6MT brake pad replace

I have a 6MT at 20k and heard that I need to get my pads replaced and rotors cut(rotors are Acura SOP). Dealer said that the Brembos are harsher which cause more wear. When did you get your brembos replaced? How much did it cost. I got quoted approx. $500.

try to get in touch with Dave from www.zeckhausen.com.
from what i know, you will just need your pads replaced.
you can use HAWK HPS Street brake pads which will have less brake dust.
Dave carries them and he is in NJ.

I just called the dealer and complained about squeeking, they replaced my brembo pads (with new formulated/shaped ones) and turned the rotors. I have no squeeking whatsoever. All for $0. Basically a free brake job. Maybe you could get the same

Oh, that's a good one. Let's see if we can rip the dealer off when it's time for you to replace your pads. Good one. That just makes the cost of cars more expensive for the rest of us. Can't really believe that's coming from a moderator.

What are you talking about?

cTLgo complained about his brakes squeaking. Would you want squeaking brakes?
When you turn the rotors you're supposed to get new brake pads also. He didn't rip the dealer off. His problem is covered under warranty.

i think $500 for pads and rotors would be the rip off.

He probably did get his brakes replaced for free because of warranty. He was lucky to get the dealer to replace his brakes for free. Tell me what dealer doesnt try to rip us off? I should of gotten my tires replaced under warranty after being bald with just over 9k miles. The dealer told me it was normal wear. It's a rip off I think for the dealer to tell me that.

I have a friend that works for Acura and he says it's good to complain about all the defects in the car because it gives Honda a better understanding of the defect and in return they can improve on the quality. It doesn't raise the price of the car a noticeable amount until the next generation comes out.

As others said, what the?

My brakes were squeeking badly. I reported it to the dealer, dealer identified a TSB for brakes that applies to my car. Dealer applied TSB to my car, covered under WARRANTY, hence its free. I didn't rip the dealer off at all, i suggested this TSB to the poster as he may have a similar problem. So, think before you post.

Just like the dealers' quoting 1 - 1½ hours labor to install the Comptech Rear Stabilizer Bar which in reality is only a 15 minute job.

What would you charge to do the job? One hour of labor is the minimum charge at most shops.

My shop would charge 1/2 an hour...we might have initially quoted 1 hour if we did not know how easy the job was, but upon completion 15 min later would have dropped the charge down to 1/2 (and that includes rack time and work order write up)...

I would hate to be a mechanic in that shop.

Boss: "Hey Joe. Can you do this sway bar job?"
Mechanic: "I'm working on an engine rebuild right now."
Boss: "I know. But we haven't done one of these on an '04 TL and I don't want strut boy to screw it up. I'd appreciate it if you could do it. It won't take long."
Mechanic: "What's it book?"
Boss: "An hour."
Mechanic: "Get it on the lift. I'll knock it out."

Later...
Boss: "Great work. The customer was real happy. (It sure is nice that your experience and the fact that you have half a Snap-On truck in your toolbox helps you work so fast.) But you were too quick. I'm only going to pay you half for it."

hahah thats funny because my name is joe. actually we would tell the customer to leave their car or come back when we have a guy that is free to install it. i wont get into why its not a bad shop to work at, for that would be moving far off topic. think what you want to think, if anyone needs their sway bar installed for 35 bucks PM me and I will tell you where i work.

You idiot.

If you want to bitch at someone about raising the prices, then bitch at Honda/Acura for designing one of the worst transmissions in history. Replacing all those busted transmissions for free under warranty (I'm talking about the second generation TL/CL) is waaaay worse than him getting a free brake job, which was probably done under warranty or on good faith, anyway.

Also, you obviously don't know that car companies have funds set aside specifically to pay for repairs/replacements of widespread problems. It doesn't affect car prices in the future. Car prices are set based on the cost of building it, and more importantly, what the market can bear.

By the way, why don't you call up President Bush and bitch him out, too? Due to the value of the U.S. dollar falling, Honda/Acura recently raised their USDM vehicle prices by 200+ dollars.

Go do some research, learn something, then open your mouth.

Yeah, I was definitely off topic. Good to hear you're in a good shop. 35 bucks seems like a really good deal - especially in the Bay Area.

I forgot to add...we dont bill flat rate and dont get paid flat rate. Dealerships often get nailed because they get work done faster than the book time yet they still bill book time...flat rate. A lot of shops do this as well.
