Cool valve tapping/knocking? engine light on

I recently was told that I have a valve tapping, if you put your hand over the vavle when the engine is on you can feel that the middle valve is messed up says one. Yesterday I was driving and then the engine light came on and the car just started to boggin out and someone asked if i had an exhaust leak because it sounded like the exhaust was popping/studdering when I reved it up. Does anyone know what is wrong. Mind you the valve noise has been going on for one year and i never had anything but premium gas and no water damage. The only mod is an intake to the engine. I change my oil and filter every 3k miles with mobile one synthetic. Please help!!
My car is an 05 with 49k miles.

Is there oil in the car?
Being an '05 and depending on the in service date, I guess it's out of warranty, unless it was a CPO vehicle.
If covered under the warranty take it to the dealer.

Take it to AutoZone and have them read the code.

Is your car an automatic transmission or 6-speed manual ?

Says one what? How did he put his hand over the valve? Did he removed a valve cover to get to it? Keep in mind, you have 24 valves. Couple of questions, please.

o Are you the original owner? If so, did this develop slowly or suddenly and if suddenly, what did you do to bring this about?

o Do you hear the sound at all normal engine speeds?

o Do you hear any sort of rattling coming from the engine area, kind of like keys rattling in a can?

Definitely either buy a hand-held diagnostic code reader or have your codes read to see what gives.

SouthernBoy,

You forgot one other question.

o Is this a 6-speed trans and did someone maybe grab a lower gear instead of a higher gear ?

if the engine was off and you were feeling the valve, make sure that cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke.

Whoa. That doesn't speak too well for their techs.

Glad it was something as simple as that.
