Trunk lid spring tool
Trunk lid spring tool
Has anyone successfully got a shop or dealer to let them borrow the trunk lid torson spring tool? I'm not trying to be a cheap ass but $40?
I've already order 2 springs (one of which was the wrong one) and didn't realize it so I couldn't return it (my fault) but I'm way too into this already for a $40 one time use tool.

If you are 'handy' maybe you can fab one up?

Or if you have a local Acura / Honda specialty shop near by, they may do the install at a fraction of what the dealer would charge?

Any chance it's a tool that the local auto parts store has that you can borrow?
Or like Zeta said, find a local shop and slip them a 20 or a 6-pack of cerveza asking them to borrow it for a second?

What complicates things further is, if you look at the illustration on page 20-140 in the 07-08 TL FSM the listed 07aaf-snaa100 tool being used looks like the below.
There appears to be a 'lip' attached to grab & steady the torsion spring as the round hollow portion holds the spring within.
Logically, then the installer could / would have more control to manipulate the spring & 'muscle' it into position without fearing it would separate from the tool under tension, that would suck.
Now if you look at the (older?) 08m10-sm4-100 tool listed on the attached PDF & looks like the below, clearly the tool design is similar (magenta) because the 'lip' is present
; however, there is now another part number to the tool image, lol.
The real 07aaf-snaa100 tool without the lip below.
If you 'google' (
) 08m10-sm4-100 HPN claims it's 'in stock'?
