Trunk spring

OK...the durn spring broke again...2nd time. Last time I bought the springs online, but no way could I install the things...way too dangerous and too much tension. So, I took it to the dealer who charged me about $200 for the installation. I think I'm done with these things, but it's my wife's car and she's just about had it with holding up that trunk lid.

Is there anyone who's done a mod on holding the trunk lid open without using the stupid springs? Like using some kind of gas strut or something?

How are you breaking the trunk springs? Cheap china ones? Those arent something that are known to break. (i dont recall anyone here having them break before)

Nope...they're stock. Only one breaks at a time and we've had two of them snap over the life of the car...this is the second time. Don't ask me why or how they're snapping. Everyone has different things go wrong with the cars...this is mine...

Yeah! That's what I'm talking about. But in the pic I see that the springs appear to be intact. I wonder if the struts by themselves will do the job? In this setup they're getting an assist from the springs.

Clarification: When I said "springs" I was referring to the long, hooked 1/4" rods (2). I have seen them referred to as "torsion bars/rods." My bad if I misnamed them.

they are getting assist from them but it will hold the trunk lid with just the hood struts.
