Trunk Lifting Assembly

Has anyone replaced this with a pop-trunk setup or hydraulic shocks? Instead of that silly springed mechanism that takes up useless room under the rear deck?

There is a guy on the TSX side that did convert it to hydro lifters with some skills.. It can be done but there isn't any DIY for it.

I did it, but not to make more room under the rear deck. Why do you want more room under the rear deck? They really dont take up much room.

because big ass subwoofer box & still wanting my golf clubs in there...it can be pushed further back but the amp is mounted to the top & I like having it hidden up under the deck.

I can figure out the static forces needed to do it, I just wanted to see what others have done to see if there are going to be issues or improvements to make instead of later.

Can you please tell us the make and model # of those shocks? I'd like to do the same. Want to get rid of the torsion bars and mount some speakers under the deck.

Yea, that's pretty cool right there. Simple solution for people with heavy spoilers too.

doubtful but ill try to find something # wise. I know its about 7" (14" total) in length. The ends it clips to i got from the salvage yard. Just unscrewed them from a hood. Other wise you can get them from the dealer for about 5 bucks 85269-SH3-003 STUD, BALL. Im sure part stores carry them too.

Fatty, if anything just measure total entended length from central axis of each mounting joint & the length of the shock body. I'm working the statics problem on a whiteboard as i type this.....if I can find a shock that gives the almost perfect force to lift a stock trunk then i can run that setup & then recalculate given the trunk has been dynamatted (my case) and pick a shock for those with matted trunk lids....

I posted the shock length of 14" fully extended above. Mine would open the trunk by themselves when the button was pressed with the spoiler on.

The one on the arm...did you drill thru the arm? Is there a support ball that will accept the bolt thru the arm? You can tell I'm not real good at this kinda thing...

I used a piece of L bracket and fastened that to the metal cross member behind the seat and attached the ball to that. On the trunk arms i drilled a hole thru them to attach them. There are other options or methods that could be used, i just went that route.

Awesome job! I've got my work cut out for me!

Say...I see you live in Wisconsin...I'll fly you to Seattle to do this for me! But let me give it a try first.

Did you use self-tapping bolts to attach the L bracket to the cross member, or nuts and bolts? Not a lot of room to work in there...or did you take the back seat out? Man, I need all the help I can get on things like this...

OK...I see how pulling up sharply on the seat cushion releases it for removal, but how is the backrest removed? Are there bolts/clips?

Also, re the ball studs...are those studs threaded to receive a nut and washer on the open end? Acurapartswarehouse.com has them, but there's no pic.

Happy Turkey!

There are 2 or 3 10mm bolts that hold the backrest down. Remove those and lift up. Then it comes out. They are threaded. Just need a washer and nut

Cool...and where are those bolts located on the backrest? The only access seems to be on the bottom.
