My trunk springs seem very week; it hits me in my head with the car parked in a gentle slope. I called the dealer but they said nothing can be done about it. They have many complaints but Acura cannot find any solution for it. I wonder if anyone have the same experience with the trunk lid and what can you do to correct it?

 

many peps dont know that the trunk springs have two settings. Ive moved mine to the heavier setting with just a big screwdriver and some muscle. take a look at where the spring rest on the ends and youll see another notch that it could rest in.
do you have a spoiler? and where the heck is millbrae?

 

Do you have spoiler, aftermarket or OEM, is your rods gray or black?

 

I just checked the spring. The spring is gray color and it is rest on the second notch from the end. Thanks for any help!

 

Oh, I do have an OEM spoiler.

 

That might be why, I have the gray ones and just added the spoiler. It almost whacked me once. I plan to get it upgraded to the heavy duty ones soon. PM NYDESI80, I got the springs + spoiler with him... going to install them soon.

 

You need to buy new springs, the ones needed for the spoiler is black. Are you sure you have OEM spoiler because they come with new trunk springs. Look under the spoiler LED, it should say ACURA if it is OEM, Aftermarket ones look the same, only they are heavier.

Call 1888RAYLAKS and Tim should be able to hook you up with the heavy duty trunk springs for around $60.

Make sure you get the tool. You will surely loose a finger without the tool if you plan on installing it urself. If your goign to buy the spring at a dealer, Im sure it cant be too much to install it, as it literally should only take 10mts.

Oh wait.. i just realized that you said you have an OEM spoiler. That should mean they should upgrade the springs for you .. someone correct me if Im wrong. A sign of not changing springs, means that the dealer didnt put in an OEM spoiler. You might wanna check that. Cuz when you buy an OEM spoiler, you get the heavy duty torsion bars with it as a package. This is what I've seem to know.

 

You're right man, if it's OEM spoiler, dealer or whoever installed it should put in the heavy duty springs.

 

I talked to Tim, the heavy duty torsion bars are $26 + free shipping + 3.95 handling. See if your local dealer is cheper (I doubt it) and then call Tim at 1888 RAY LAKS, he is internet service manager for Ray Laks Acura/Honda in NY state.

 

IMO he shouldn't have to pay for the torsion bars, cuz he bought an OEM spoiler, go back to the dealer and complain if you got it there. Also this would be a good time to check to see if your spoiler is actually OEM... to do this check the bottom of the spoiler to see if you have an A C U R A stamped on it like the picture here :



Thas HZM82's spoiler... look for the stamp of A C U R A on the bottom. If u got that, then you have OEM.. if not .. go to the dealer with a bat.

Thank you, guys! With your info I checked the spoiler and found that it is NOT a OEM, no ACURA marking. I guess i may have to the dealer to put in heavy duty bars.

 

Goodluck with that.....The heavy duty bars will save you a lot of headaches (literally)...I'm just curious........did you get the spoiler from the dealer? Did they try to pass it off as an OEM spoiler? Did they charge you $600+? Aftermarket Spoilers are a lot cheaper then OEM........so if they charged you the OEM price.......they are scamming you

I bought the car used in Feb. this year. Dealer did not indicated that spoiler is of after market. I thought that trunk lid need a spring adjustment then. I did not see that it could be a problem until I was hit in head a couple days ago. I really appreciate all the responses that I reveived on this post.

 

Thats what this forum is here for.....just get the heavy duty ones and you'll be set.

 

If i bouth it from a dealer ... thas all that matters to me. I would still complain, and get them to give me the torsion bars and put it in for free. There is a reason you bought it from the dealer.

 

has anyone tried the heavy springs w/o a spoiler? would that make the trunk open all the way when you hit the button? that would be nice.
