Trans locked in neutral after high speed mobbing
Trans locked in neutral after high speed mobbing
Hello i have a 2005 acura tl base with auto trans, 129k miles, no mods, only services done were battery oil and sparkplugs at 128k after i purchased car from auction.
Ok so, i was driving from a mountain range on the highway with a friend and we were really on the pedal going 80-100 through curvy sections of the highway for about 20 mins. Then we get on a few nice straightaways and i hit 150mph! Ahead of me Highway starts curving, we slow down to about 100 and we cruise at that speed for about 1 min before i hear a loud “click” and all of a sudden my car is in neutral and my pedal isn't doing anything! I pull over shut off the car let it cool down for 15 min start it up and shift it into reverse and nothing happens! Same with drive, and lower, and manual mode(1&2 do not work) also no CEL! I checked the trans fluid next morning and it is BLACK! (Already purchased dw1 atf for full flush but never got to it!) It is level and there are no leaks or holes in the transmission! So im guessing the transmission overheated and locked it self out! Im also guessing that my shift solenoids are completely clogged and the other sensors that the trans has are too! Car still wont shift into gear after getting it towed and it sitting all night! Im thinking about ordering a sins transmission solenoid kit with all sensors, i dont know if that will help! Let me know how you guys think i should procced!

I have not heard of a trans "locking itself out" but then again I am not a certified Honda mechanic. If you did not get any codes, nor any other evidence of your trans overheating or failing, I would also venture to say that it's your axle.
My experience was similar when I broke one of mine, your gear selector will not work (your differential has no resistance and will not do anything). Mine was making quite a racket though, flopping around in the fork at the bottom of the shock/strut. The axle spins at idle but you will not be able to give any power to it. If both axles visually appear okay, remember to take a look at the intermediate shaft. You will have to get under the car to inspect that. Give it an inspection and let us know.
Also, I hate to sound like a buzzkill but if you're "mobbing" @150mph on cooked trans fluid and having parts of your car fail at the same time, you ought to be more careful doing that stuff unless you're confident in the state of the parts on your car.

I had to Urban Dictionary "mobbing". It means "driving around with your friends and/or bitches, bumping music, having a good time, and hopefully picking up some more bitches".
I'm not even 30 and I feel old.

To think I almost did this to my TL when I got it, 120 mph on Miami Beach bridge. My vape juice was boiling in the cup holder after a couple miles at big speed. For the love of all that is holy change the gunk the previous owners called tranny fluid.
Just put the vape juice in the transmission, gives it 20 extra horsepower
