Squealing sound when accelerating in 05 TL

When i accelerate i hear a squealing sound coming from under the car. I am thinking that it might be a loose pulley. Not too sure. i am new to the TL, i just got it a couple of weeks ago. Any suggestions????

Mileage?

How many miles on it? First guess would be worn/glazed belts. Check the belt for glazing (shiny and smooth grooves) and cracks. Your tensioner pulley could be going bad too, but it's much more rare than a belt squeal.

edit: by the way... welcome to the forums

it has about 36,000 miles on it. I will check the belts and see whats up. I just wouldnt think it would be the belts this early in the mileage.

you know i have a similar problem on my 06 with 42k miles. i thought it was from my brakes because i just put on new pads and rotors, but it only happens when i give it gas, like when the car is pulling, and if it was brakes i would think it would always be there. its not very loud so its hard to tell where it is coming from.

i am interested to know what you find...

Definitely check your rotors.. do you notice the noise going away after you get up to speed? If it always happens when you accelerate from stop it could be your alternator belt or belt pulleys.. check for residue from the belt around the alternator housing or belt pulleys.

... also... where did you buy your TL?.. if it is a humid / salty environment.. spot rust can form on the rotors and pulleys (even under 30k, especially if not driven for a while), which would both cause wearing on the belt or pads.. notice dust from your pads on your wheels, more on one then the other?? let us know

Sounds like your problem is your belt. Do the same checks.. Also check if the noise comes on when you engage your A/C when your car is parked.

Your belt will be a high pitch noise..

Your brakes will be a squeal..

Brake noise is road speed dependant, belt noise is engine speed dependant. Should be pretty easy to tell the difference.

for me, i havent heard anything while parked, it happens at all speeds(though its a lot harder to hear as i speed up because of the increased road and wind noise) and is more dependent on the "giving gas" pull and less on the actual engine speed or road speed. but from what i remember, it happens between 1500 and 2000 rpms. it does sound more like a belt issue. i will keep an eye on mine to see exact engine and road speeds...

sorry for hijacking Jsteg3346

My 05' has about 68,000 and does the same. I hear a noise that sounds like it could be the belt, but it only does it as it warms up and with the idle at lower RPMs. Can the belt act like that until the car gets warmed up?

I have an 05TL with 30k mi. There was a thread about this problem a few months ago. I think they said it was something to do with changing a bunch of shit like, tensioner/bearings/belts. Someone needs to search this up. Im to lasy. This is a pretty common problem for the TL it seems. Kinda bullshit on acura's part (legendary performance) psh! Or maybe its because the TL is built in america! BAM! thats it. its made in america, home of POS vehicles. Im pissed. Its gonna be alot of money to get this stupid sqeeking removed.

it only does it when i give it a little bit of gas. If i accelerate fast you dont here it. But it does do it at all speeds. I will check to see if it is a belt issue. Will let everyone know what i find.

I just had my car serviced. They told me it was the heat shield, but my ext. warranty wouldn't cover it. They changed my belt tensioner though and I haven't really heard it anymore, but I haven't really checked. I'll check tomorrow morning. Actually, they fixed more than I thought was wrong with the car.

Ok, the sound is still there. Does anyone know about the heatshield and where on the car is it located?

Yes, a design flaw is the fault of the assembler...

I've driven American cars my whole life and while I love the TL, it has it's strengths and weaknesses compared to American cars. To say America is home to POS vehicles is downright ignorant. I would love to see the TL make the power that my pushrod stock bottom American 6 cylinder makes.

All I want to know is how much it will cost to swap the intermediate heat shaft shield. Does anyone know? My car is no longer under warranty.

I don't know about any heat shield issues. I did put a stethosope to my TL and found that my idler pulley bearing had gone bad. It gave a whine that increased on acceleration and that was also in pitch. Not saying that's it....just saying it was my problem.
