Chirping TL... and I dont have a Nextel

Yea Ive been AWOL for a while, sorry if you guys missed me, prolly not but moving on... this is just driving me ape sh*t. So my car makes this weird chirping/grinding noise coming from under the hood? Noticed it about 6 months into having the car... theres a threat in the CL forums about the same thing, or at least Im assuming but I was wondering if anyone elses TL had the same problem, or my cars just a freak of nature...

check all the plastic covers, make sure they are not rubbing on anything and securly fastened, after that, i'm not sure what to tell you.

Is it like a plastic on plastic sound, metal on metal, metal on plastic?

Belt or idler pulley maybe?
Have dealer tech use a stethoscope; chirping is not a normal sound.

Maybe your friend encountered another TL with a problem. A couple of people have had tensioner pulleys or idler pulleys replaced when they heard squeaking (as opposed to chirping) from the engine compartment and thought it might be the power steering. Search "power steering" and "squeaking" for those threads.
The only chirping that should ever come from a TL is the sound of tires breaking loose on acceleration.

Same here, It started happening after about 10,000 miles on the passenger side. I've taken my car to the dealer and they look at me like i'm crazy. But I hear the noise at low rpms when first accelerating. If anybody knows what is making the noise, let me know so I can be more detailed on where its coming from next time I go to the dealer.

Yea I hear it at idle as well, and if I dont accelerate hard I can hear the noise as well... so the dealership did nothing for you?

They told me that they took the car up and down the garage ramp at the dealer and they said that no noise was occurring and that the car was working according to the manufacture. I hear it during slow acceleration but not at idle. I should be going in to have my brakes done soon at the dealer, I will be asking them again to find that noise. I'll keep you updated if anything gets fixed.

Have the tech ride with you and let him know when you hear the noise. Otherwise, you will get a "cannot duplicate" finding with this type of issue. Also, if you can hear it but a male tech cannot, keep in mind that men lose high-frequency hearing more quickly than women.
Either that or the noise is all in your mind...

I will be taking mine in this week for the exact same thing .
I took it in last week and told them that there was a cherping noise coming from my car when I accelerated. When I went to go pick it up they said that it was the belt and they fixed the problem, but when i got in my car to leave it was still making the noise. I went back in and got the service guy and and he rode with me and heard what I was talking about. So, they know that i am not making things up. I will fill you guys in as soon as I get it back.

i have the same noise in my car. it comes from the passenger side and i only hear the sound at idling and it slowly disappears as i accelerate. at first i thought it had something to do with my aem cai but it seems like it's a belt or pulley.

The noise I am tring to find is not coming from the subwoofer... it is coming from the engine area on the passenger side.

Same Problem, sounds like a freaking bird underneath my hood!!!

Same problem here and NO its not coming from my subwoofer.

This noise sounds like a freaking bird chirping underneath my hood. The sound only comes on when Im at a stop and I start to accelerate maybe till about 10-15 mph. Its freaking annoying. Like if Im in a parking garage driving around looking for parking spot or a drive thru like McDonalds or something like that and I press the gas to move forward it comes on. Once I pass like 15 mph , No noise. Its gone.

What the hell is that?!?! Has anyone figured it out yet? Thanks.

I get my car back today. The service guy told em that is was the clutch on the A/C that was making the noise. They sprayed some "Lubricant" on it and they said it fixed the problem. We will see how long the "Lubricant" will last.

I have a seperate question. I also complained to them about my car was idling rough and they told me that the car was operating correctly and that it is probably the Etahanol in the fuel that was causing it.

Can E10 fuels cause this or they just blowing smoke?

Is anyone else having this problem?

We can rule out the A/C clutch as the cause of the Noise. I went to pick up my car lastnight (1 - 1 1/2 hr drive each way) and the service guy said he personally drove the car to make sure that the noise was fixed, but when i showed up it just started to do it again. So needless to say i drove up there for no reason and was a little Pi$$Ed. I am also thinking about calling the service guy about his B.S. claim about the E-10 fuel making my car idle rough. Good luck and i will let you know what their next excuse is going to be.

Well i have new results. The problem was a heat shield over the drive axle was rubbing against it and that was causing the noise. I am going to pick it up in the morning and we will see if they have fixed the problem.
