Heat shield over the drive axle? Would anything bad happen if you didnt get this fixed? Cause my whips a lease and I dont have the time or feel like dealing with the stealership. Btw how long did it take them to fix this?

It is up to you if it is not bothering you that much, then i would not worry about it. I don't think it will cause any harm to the car, but i got tired of sounding like a herd of Crikets every time I accelerated

As to how long it took, once they found the problem it only took them an hour or two, but in total it took them two days to find what was causing the noise.

Don't see why time is a problem. Its a lease, its warranted, you get a loaner.............

Well Im sorry lem I dont know if you just like arguing with me sometimes because Acura or anybody else wont give me a loaner until Im 25 because if something happens to their car, their insurance wont cover it. Im extremely proud of you that youve been getting loaners since youre 23. Im 19, making it less than 23 and even further away from 25.

Wasn't arguing. My dealer gives it to me no questions asked. I rent cars all the time when I don't want to put miles on my car, I didn't know that being under 25 was such a big deal......no one has ever said anything to me.

Maybe its how you present yourself.

Maybe its cause the manager is one of my moms patients and he knows us? And maybe you should stop throwing subliminals or flat out say something.

well my chirping 2006 TL is finally fixed...front end chirped going over any small bumps or closing doors, trunk, etc....description on my service bill is "secured engine mount bolt causing squeeking"..it actually worked. guy said it was common with the TL because the factory did not tighten the bolt to spec and it became loose ??? true or not, it's fixed...hope it helps.

I haven't updated you guys on this issue in a while... I took my car in the the dealer and had the tech take my car outside of the work area where it was quieter. The "cricket" noise is now happening during idle and low rpms under 1500. My service advisor said that they are getting it fixed. I spoke with her today and she said that it was the heat shield. My car has been at the dealer for a week now... I've had a Type-S loaner the whole time and loving it!!!

I'll update if that fixed the noise once I get back into my car...

Alright so I got my car back today from the dealer and they fixed the noise. Tech inspected and found noise coming from shaft bearing heat shield vibrating at mounting points. I haven't heard my car so quiet since it was new!! Good luck with anybody having the same issue. I hope this helps!

I hate to resurrect this thread but I had a similar sound coming from my 05 MT. I took it in and of course they did not hear it, but I heard it a couple minutes down the road. Its a constant sound despite whether at stop or in motion. However, it would go away when I put slight pressure on the clutch or full disengagement. Also, I had noticed odd behavior with the clutch i.e. it did not feel disengaged at the bottom of the pedal travel. My clutch just went out but so did the sound. Hmm...

Angry Me too!

I hear it too.

First they replaced the serpentine belt tensioner and that didn't fix it. Then they looked at the axle shaft heat shield and that wasn't it.

It's mostly from idle to 1,600 rpm and comes from the passenger side front (front of the engine).

I think it might be the timing belt tensioner or the A/C compressor clutch.

Pull up next to a wall or another car and just hold the car at 900-1,000 rpm and listen to it. Chirping/cricket sound...so damn annoying...especially for the price of these cars.

I wish I could rip into the car but my wife won't let me touch it.

So, I dropped off the car this morning @ Gillman Acura North Houston.
I have the "chirping issue" , well since approximately 3 weeks prior to today. I had a clutch replaced with my mechanic. And the dealer knew that I went somewhere else to do this.

The Service Tech told me later on today that my SUB FRAME NUTS AND BOLTS WERE NOT PROPERLY TIGHTEN blaming my mechanic who performed a clutch replacement , which is the cause of the " chirping ".

Weird but I since I got the car back the noise is gone.

WOW...

Service Bulletin on chirping noise

There's a new service bulletin on the chirping noise under the hood. It applies to all 2005 through 2007 TL's. The fix involves installing a shim, new timing belt, new pulley and, for certain 2007 TLs, a new water pump as well. The service bulletin was released on June 27, 2008. The bulletin number in 08-031. If you have this problem, you should call the dealer and mention this service bulletin.

One more questions: I ve read this SB
http://www.in.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/SB/B08-031.pdf , but is it just me or the Chirping on happens when my car is on the rough roads , hitting bumps , and during gear shift.
Could this chirp come from the inside?

Let me know if you guys are hearing the same.

Thanks.

Really sorry to re-ressurect this thread everyone. I've been searching the site for days trying to scrape up any more info on this issue -- but specifically to one particular point that dejavecu (and one other poster in another thread) made:

The part about putting slight pressure on the clutch will make the crickets go away. (As an observation, not a fix.)

I could not find anyone ever confirmed this observation. Did anyone else try to see if theirs was the same?

My concern is that many of the possible fixes don't seem to line up with this behavior (it way be that everyone elses's cause was different?). For example, I can't see why a sound coming from a water pump would go silent by depressing the clutch.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Of course my next step is to go to the stealership. My fear is that dejavecu associated this with the clutch failing?
Thanks!
