Removing Steering wheel Airbag (LED change)

I'm replacing my interior bulbs with T3 LEDs. When I got to the steering wheel I removed the underneath cover, unclipped the airbag connection, and then attempted to break loose the T30 bolts on each side. Well I stripped both of them, it seems to be common. So i guess my only choice is to drill them out? I'm holding my breath for other answers first

If they are stripped out, drilling would be my only guess... you could try to drill small holes and use e-z out bits to try to remove them. GL? Those are tough to get to in the first place.

I ordered a set of stripped screw extractors from Amazon and a drill bit extension, should be here tomorrow. I'll let you know it goes only about $15 all together so worth a shot

Take your time and do it right. You may only have one shot at it...

I watched a Youtube video about doing this fix. He also stripped one of those steering wheel bolts. He said that he heard that Acura puts locktite on them and by putting a soldering iron on the bolt to heat it up, that will help loosen the locktite so that the bolt will come loose easier.

Just an update:
I bought a set of Irwin bolt/screw extractor sockets and got one of the screws out. I spent an hour fighting with the other side and its completely rounded, not budging at all. I'm giving up on it for now, i'm sure in a couple of weeks ill come back and drill it out but feeling pretty annoyed

I'm in the same situation. I stripped the left bolt. Tried to the bolt extractor to no avail. Will try the drilling out method because it worked when I broke the bolt on the bracket for the alternator. I drilled into it and when I reversed the drill, surprisingly, came right out. But since there's Loctite on this bolt, will have to heat it up for sure.

Allow me to respectfully point out the Airbag is an explosive device.

After reading this thread I would not mess with it to change lights.

I have removed mine to change out the lights. id recommend disconnecting the battery otherwise upon placing the airbag back in you will be honking the horn, or at least I was, when feeding connectors back into place!

Did you end up getting that second screw out? How has no one followed-up on this!? It's like watching the last episode of a season and having to wait until next spring for the new season to start. We need answers lol!

In this weeks season opener the answer may be given. Another member said "Turbo Sockets" work in this post. But dang them things are expensive. So you may want to search for Craftsman turbo sockets or other that look like the SK ones in the linked post. Also probably need to stick with 1/4 drive to fit in the wheel
