Problem while removing airbag.

Trying to replace the bulbs around the steering wheel, well the two torqs screws are stubborn. One of them came out with a bit of power needed, and other one turns about 1/2 way then stops and If I try to keep going it will round out the head. Any suggestions? I am using a torq 30 head.

I also used a 30 plus head.

Update, Acura uses a blue lock tight on those bolts. Almost every TL that comes in with a driver side airbag removal goes through the same issuse I just encountered. What happens is a 1/4 inch setup won't have enough strenght to break those bolts loose, 3/8 setup has more than enough to break them loose but if your not dead center you will strip them very quick.

Every tech at my local acura dealership has a SPECIAL tool which takes out those bolts even if you stripped them, and have a new updated bolt head design. They will send me the tool to try with those new bolts on monday. In short words acura part on this was very stupid for having a weak head bolt on something that will need to come off a few times for those LED lights that keep burning out.

I was just going to say that the bolts are lined with a lock tight and new ones are required to be used if the airbag is taken out!

You wouldn't need new screws... just put some more lock-tite (blue stuff) on the old screw and you're done... When I removed my air bag... it came out very easy... I did use a 3/8 set-up...

just a fyi, they aren't LED's. they are regular bulbs which is why they burn out

Or you can do it that way, whenever we do any airbag removal at my honda dealership honda usually requires you to use new screws, but replenishing the locktite works just as good.

So this is my great 1st post, but I ran into the same thing. The passenger side was a little reluctant but came out, and the driver's side I totally rounded off and the thing didn't even budge.

They are (roughly) quoting me $95 to take it out. Right when I said airbag screws the woman was like, "oh god...", like one of those "not again" type of responses

This is old. I have removed my airbag probably another 4x since this thread. I realized since new ones only cost a few cents, I am not going to waste time trying to save them from stripping. I got a set of turbo sockets.. Yes 1/4 turbo sockets.

http://www.amazon.com/SK-756-4-Inch-.../dp/B0007GGUE2

What you do is tap the sockets to anything stripped or rounded, in this case use them on the airbag torx screws. While using a small extension and 1/4 rachet they come off. Now Don't even bother trying to reuse them just change them. In some cases you can get away without using them but I don't even bother anymore just tap them on and spin them off your done. No more messing around.

So the dicks at Morande Acura charged me close to $50 to pull it out (the 2 minutes it took), I was furiuos (I asked for a quote first and the did it and just thought they could bill me a full $100). On top of that, they were completely rude about it all.

Just an FYI- these bolts don't appear to be any different in design than the previous torx screws I had in there...

Did the acura tech lend you the tool to remove it? If so what was it? I need my car back together by Thursday, so I need something to remove this stripped torx screw by tomorrow..

I did see the above pictured tool at Sears too but Acura had already pulled it out. The service guys were just asses though so I left pretty upset before I asked what they used.

Though I did pick up a set of these while I was there though to make it a little easier than a socket wrench w/ an extension

I had a torx bit attached to an extension to a ratchet. It can still strip with those tools you got.. I would still go ahead and get the craftsman bolt off just in case.

See the thing is that when you buy new air bag screws.. which you are supposed to buy everytime you take out the air bag.. they come with it on the screw already.. noticed it when I put them in.. just trying to watch out for you man!

Yeah haha, I paid my damn $5 for the 2 new screws! I saw the pink on the threads. I think I may take some of it of it off though. They actually wound up sticking in another new bolt to hold the airbag on for me for the drive home, but I took that one out with ease.

Still waiting for my LED's from Hong Kong to be able to finish this up!
