Rear brake line bracket issue

Hello,

First post and this might seem dumb as hell. But I was doing the rear pad replacement on a 07 TL, and using Carsntoys method of wrench and hammer, easily got the caliper bolts off.

Here comes the issue, the brake line for me didn't have enough slack to come completely off the rotor so I had to remove the bracket bolt, but it just wouldn't budge. The actual sheet metal tab holding the bracket started flexing before the bolt even showed any sign of moving.

Tried letting it sit with WD-40, and tried the hammer and wrench method. Is there any way to get the caliper off without undoing this bracket? If not, should I start experimenting with heat and or impact tools?

Just to be sure, you're turning the bolt head, not the nut in the picture, correct?

And I wouldn't rely on WD-40. Go get some DeepCreep (my preference) or PowerBlaster and let it set overnight...

Yeah i was turning the 12mm bolt on the other side, this photo was me showing someone where the rust was.

I'll try some other products, but in the end this bracket needs to come off to finish the job right?

I don't remember having to remove the bracket, but it's been over 3 years since I last replaced my rear pads. Did you check the Garage for the various brake DIY tutorials?

Nah, no need to remove that bolt, that just keeps the brake line out of the way. I just loose the caliper bolts and swing the whole caliper up and use a wire hanger to hold it up (attached to the shock)

I would try PB Blaster, but that does not need to come off to remove the caliper. Make sure you compress the piston enough to remove the caliper from the rotor. Wedge a flat head in between the rotor and pad and pry it. That should do the trick for you. I have done the rear brakes 3 times over the years of owning both cars. Never had to touch that bracket.

Ahhhhhh, that makes sense, pushing the pistons back in would un-wedge the caliper.

Makes sense why I couldn't pull the caliper clear, I just wanted to be cautious because I felt like I was pulling on the brake line a bit too much.

Thanks!
