pressure switches
pressure switches
My car shakes when slowly switching gears around the 30-35 mph. I have done some searching on these threads and figured it was the pressure switches(sensors) that need to be replace. I also read that each time it shakes or grinds, it is damaging the transmission. I have 88k on my car and my warranty expires at 100k and if i take it into the dealer will they just replace the switches or will they replace the transmission? I really want the transmission replaced because it is damaged and i was wondering if there is anything to say/quote to convince them to replace the transmission?
BTW my warranty is aftermarket and has been good in the past.

The pressure switches are not a dealer service interval item. I fear that they will not do anything until the transmission goes completely. Even then, most shops will put all external components back on the reman, or rebuilt, transmission.
You might have to do this yourself.
...and yes, every time the transmission slips, it does damage.
I would not even mention the switches, get a new transmission and then have them put new switches on it before they drop the rebuild/reman back in.

I agree. Try and get a new one first. If they replace it, you may have to come out of pocket to do the switches to the new unit but it's well worth it.
Acura has proven time and time again that they are unwilling to replace these switches even though they will prevent trans failure. They won't even recognize a problem exists. They transfer over the old bad switches that caused the failure to the new unit. Then they wonder why the second, third, and fourth replacement trans go out even quicker than the first.
I guess my point is our only option is to sometimes help ourselves because Acura is not going to help. If they won't help you out with a new unit, I would replace the switches asap.

So should i go in and tell them that my car vibrates really bad or right now when it vibrates i give it gas and it stops. should i just not give it gas and press cruise to get it to mess up the trans so it will break or do you think in the current condition i have a chance at it being replaced?
I don't really have any good advice here, just make sure that they don't just try and get you over 100K without incident with fluid changes and stuff.
If you can, make the business case to them. Since this is the aftermarket warranty, they get business/money from a bad transmission, so they should error on the side of money since it is not the Acura rep in their ears for warrantying stuff out.
Can you take it to an aftermarket import shop? Perhaps they will be willing to error on the side of money?
Wherever you go, ask them to put good fluid in the transmission from the start, even if you have to pay extra for it. You an do the switches yourself in about 30 minutes if they will not.

Going off of other people's past experiences they will either say they can't feel it or it's normal or it's not the trans. This seems to be the standard reply. At a minimum you need to go with them and drive the car and show them what it's doing. Otherwise you will get the standard "can't reproduce the problem".
