Unhappy Please Help! How to troubleshoot headlight. Just bought 2007 tl

I have been saving for a Tl forever and finally found the right deal. 2007 59k for 8900 that I bought on sunday with a burned out light. The problem is that I spent every penny on it and can't afford rent this month let alone $895 for the dealer to fix a light. I knew it would be expensive but had no idea.

What I did,
1.replaced 15 a fuse and it blew right away.
2.Installed D2S bulb($104 advanced auto) and fuse. both fried
3.Tried to measure continuity on ignitor but fuse kept blowing without the bulb in it

What I am woundering,
1. how can I troubleshoot if it is the ballast, ignitor or a short without totally tearing it apart?
2. is it possible to get an aftermarket HID Kit for a car that already has stock HIDs? I have seen a bunch under $100 with lifetime warranty. seems like a no brainer
3. would it be easier to just buy a new assembly?

4. why the fuck did my passenger seatbelt tensioner lock up. Took it out and found out it looks like something else I can't fix.

Please any help. I drove a GSR for 4 years with no problems. This is my dream car but I am begining to think I can't afford it or fix anything myself on it. Im so deppressed.....

Sounds like you bought the wrong car if you can't pay rent now.

If the fuse keeps popping, I would assume the ballast/ignitor is bad. A bulb won't cause a fuse to pop.

you will need to swap the ballast to the other side to see if problem follows.

Should have probably stuck to the GSR........j/k

Sounds like ballast/ignitor like jackass (lol) stated. You can also do what justnspace said.

I guess whenever you do have some cash on you check the black market, ebay, amazon, or start hitting up junk yards to find a use one.

On a side note........damn justin your avi is annoying

Yea thanks guys. I took off the bumper and headlight with a buddy which was actually way easier than I thought but the ballast was defintly fried and I figure I might as well replace the Ignitor to.

Do you think it is alright to trust getting one off ebay or something? I have all the part numbers.

And the car is a salvage title. I drove 5 hours from iowa to omaha nebraska to get it. I was really rushed when I bought it and kinda scared lol. There was like 5 rushens talking in a diffrent language and I just wanted it soo bad..haha
But anyways I got home and the headlight was out, seatbelt tensioner never got fixed from accident, navigation disk is like burned off the internet?

Desperation when purchasing a car without knowing its history or having it properly inspected equals poor decisions my friend. If you havent already go and get it properly inspected by someone you trust.

Thanks

Hey thanks for the help guys! I fixed it and now it has another problem

I bought a ballast and ignitor off ebay and Hids from retrofitsource.com and installed it myself. It worked fine for two days and now get this. It turns off between two and four minuets exactly. If I turn the lights off and back on they both work perfect. But after 2 to 4 min the passenger goes out again.

I have tested it prob 20 times car moving and parked. Always the passenger side(the one I replaced) and exactly 2 to 4 min. everytime lol. Im stumped. overheating or what?

Try swapping the bulbs and see if the problem follows.

^Swap components to the other side.

Are any SRS lights on the dash? If the seat belt is locked up, this would trip a trouble code on the dash.Make sure the SRS warning bulb lights up when you first start the vehicle. I know this is off your original question, but that's serious shit.

Also, since the seatbelt is tripped, that means that the vehicle had a collision, which explains the salvage title you mentioned. Therefore, I would check wiring, connections, etc. When people are eager to sell/scam, they will rush through repairs. Often not performing the work correctly. It sounds like the ballast to me. Was the one that was in that side an OE ballast?

Good luck.

thanks project clean. Im pre positive its not the bulb but i think Im going to have to switch the units. Im going to have to take off the bumper again anyways so might as well. I was just trying to see if this has happened to people before. just so weird how it is consistent.

But yea im nervous about the srs light. I installed the replacment tensioner but the srs light is still on.... i dont know if thats something thats easy to replace or not. i assume theres no reprograming it.

No reprogramming on this car. If the SRS light is on you have to get it read by a Honda/Acura dealer with their HDS.
Anytime a collision occurs,in this case the front seems to have taken the hit. You must replace crash sensors, any airbags/seatbelts that were deployed, seat belt buckles, and the SRS unit must be replaced. Just the 2 front sensors and SRS unit are over $500. Plus installation, plus taking it to the dealer to diagnose and clear codes.
