2004 TL ABS not working. No ABS Light

I had to do an emergency stop the other day because someone pulled out in front of me and the tires slid and the ABS did not kick in. Then the same exact thing happened to wife a few days later. Any ideas?? I am going to check the easy stuff, fuse, scan the compter for codes. No recent maintenance has been done. The rotors and pads front and rear are good. No other problems with the car. Thanks.

Why not just get new tires? They can't be good if you're both repeatedly sliding everywhere. ABS is sensitive as fk...I'd be shocked if it was NOT working and warning light wasn't displayed. The other way around is more likely...

Thanks for the quick response. The tires are new. I'm going to drive the car on some back roads and see if I can get the ABS to kick in. I was really supprised to when I heard the tires slide!

OK, what size tires and wheels, and what brand/model of tires?

When you first turn the ignition on, do the ABS and brake warning lights in the dash come on, then turn off?

The wheels are stock 17 inch and the tires are 235/45/17 Bridgestone Potanza. I turned the car to on and the ABS light comes on then I started the car and the light went out. So the self check is working and the ABS system seems fine. I'm starting to think it was just me thinking the tires were sliding when in fact they did not. I was going approximately 40 MPH when this happened. I didn't get a chance to drive the car yesterday so when I do I will post my results.

^pressure!!!

I find with my summer tires; air pressure is CRITICAL.
if too much and tires are cold, I slide.
if too little, i slide.
