2006 TL strange transmission problem when shifting into third

Hey y'all,

Own an 06 MT TL and have been noticing a rather annoying issue with my transmission: When I am in 2nd gear and rev the engine up into the 3-5k range, then shift into third, sometimes it takes an extra couple seconds for the shifter to fully engage 3rd. I will throw the shifter up and it's met by what feels to be gear resistance and then it "clicks in" (no idea how else to explain this) and I can take my foot off the clutch and continue driving.

This issue happens more often when I am accelerating quickly, but even when I am driving slowly, shifting into third is noticeably rougher, and I have to somewhat strong arm the shifter into place. It seems as if I can feel the gears coming together when shifting into third, but every other gear is very smooth and easy.

Has anyone dealt with this specific issue or anything like it? The car has about 86k miles.

I appreciate any help!
-Ben

Ben, Most Honda's display this third gear grind or popout in their manual transmissions.

we think its a fluid problem, and can be cured by using a different gear oil.

the transmission fluid of choice is the GM syncromesh friction modified fluid.
A/C delco now supersedes the previous name/brand

it has cured my 3rd gear grind/pop out
