normal or battery problem?

i let my car sit in the garage for about 2-3 weeks, and went to unlock it to get something out of the car and found out that the battery was dead.....i know acura has battery problems, and it was already replaced once before in nov 2007. but is that right? does the car drain the battery that fast in just 3 weeks? now i know the civic doesnt draw as much power as the TL but my civic sat for 2 months and it fired right up, not to mention it sat in the cold for 2 months.

there are a few things that are always on taking a small amount of power from the battery- a few weeks in dead cold may be enough to drain it.
Next time you have to store the car hook it to a float charger- battery maintainer $20, it will top off the battery as it gets drained, so its always ready to go---motorcycles use them all the time
OR disconnect the NEG cable freom the battery- then no juice goes anywhere

The civic is NOT a TL!!!

use a battery charger to get yours charged up again in decent shape- then drive for 30-45 minutes on the freeway cruise - without the ac fan. headlights or other hi draw things on- let the alternator do its job and finish bringing the battery to its actual full charge

Driving after jumpstart is hard on the alternator- its not designed to recharge dead battery- just supposed to keep it full

Go to a parts store who will test the system for free, just to be sure everything is ok and it wasnt a sign of bad battery
Batteries fail- whether its a year or 4 years old

If you don't have a quality battery charger and a volt/ohm meter, buy them. Get your battery up to full charge, then wait about 1/2 hour. Then check the voltage and record what you see. Do not drive the car or turn on anything electrical, which means don't even open the door. Wait for a much longer period of time (over night is ideal) and check the voltage again then compare it with the last reading. It should not drop much at all and should read in the neighborhood of 12.7 - 12.8 volts for a fully healthy battery. A 12.4 reading is acceptable, but I would watch it.

If the battery does not hold a charge or if it will not come up to a full charge, it needs to be replaced.
