Issues with Stop Tech front Rotors

Was wondering if anyone else has experienced rusting on Stop Tech's Cross drilled and slotted front Rotors for a 2007 base TL. There is approx. a 1/2 inch area of the rotor where the pad is not hitting and therefore rusting when getting wet. Bought the package deal which utilize Stop Tech's pads and was also wondering if they less surface area then stock pads. Calling Excelrate today to see if it possible that they sold me rotors ment for the Brembo set-up. Definitely not pleasing to the eye and aggrevated as all get out.

Bottom line, as metal/iron will rust, it's normal.
Remove the rust and paint the area.

Appreciate the insight on metal rusting, would not have firgured that one out without your help!!! Thus, did not have this issue with stock rotors and feel a rotor should not have to be painted. Also, have seen plenty of cross drilled rotors on other vehilcles and have never noticed a portion of the rotor rusting, due to the pad not contacting the entire rotor. Could be wrong, but just doesn't seen right to me. Would appreciate some insight from others who have purchased the Stop Tech Sport Rotors for 2007 base TL and have experienced the same issue. Also is the same for RB or Rotora Rotors?

Can't speak on the stoptechs, but I will say that even my stock rotors/discs seem to rust over every time I wash the car or it rains, it's gone after driving. The areas where the pad don't make contact (like the hub and the top (outer) portion of the disc were SUPER rusty...ended up sanding down and painting with high temp paint and it looks super clean. Been like 6 months now.

I've got StopTech front slotted and don't have that issue. Not a base model though.

Pics???

Glad that I could be of assistance, and if you have never seen stock rotors rust, there is a problem as all will do it after becoming wet with moisture. In fact, manufacturers are having the rotor hats coated so as they don't rust.

If you don't want to clean and paint, good luck!

Thanks for the info turbonut, the Stop Tech Rotors hub is coated and one of the reason's i went with them. Didn't realise that about an 1/2" area of the rotor near the hub would start rusting. Would have been nice for Stop Tech to take this in consideration and coat that area as well. Will do as Rockstar mentioned and have the rotor painted. Just a little annoying, considering I had all my calipers pulled and painted and if knowing would have had the rotor area done as well. Just an FYI for anyone looking to upgrade their base TL's to Stop Tech rotors. I believe the Brembo series do not have this issue, due to the caliper and pads covering the entire rotor. I'm also courious to know if Race Brake or Rotora has this same issue.

I had the same problem with them. Consider painting them.

i have the same issue but with POWER SLOT rotors and HAWK HPS pads. seems like the HAWK pads are a little thinner than stock and as such leave a thin rust ring on each rotor. bothered me at first but learned to live with it. maybe switching to stock pads will sweep the entire rotor surface but im really happy with the extra bite of the HAWK'S. hope this helps.
