Intrument Panel Rattle

My 05 TL has 2000 miles on it. I have had a hand full of squeeks and rattles that I am trying to fix myself. The latest one is a new. I did a search here and can't find any info on it.

The squeeking I am hearing is in the intrument panel around where the speedometer and guages are. The noise is heard in normal driving and is louder when on bumpy roads. There is a plastic shroud that is set over the plastic covering to the guages. It seems to be the culprit. When I press on the plastic shroud, the noise seems to stop.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks for the input.

Yes, I've got the exact same rattle in the instrument panel on my '05 TL w/only 1,400 miles. Unfortunately, I don't have a fix.

Doesn't matter what I push on, it doesn't stop. Going in for an oil change in a few months...this one is on my list of rattles to fix...don't believe there's a DIY here for it (looked the other day, actually)...you could always be the guinea pig...

Same problem here. Does not always happen, but sometimes starts with vibration from the engine or bumpy roads. I tried pulling off and reconnecting the black bezel of the instrument panel and it helped for a while but it came back.

I had a metallic rattle somewhere in the area of the speedometer and it turned out there was a service bulletin on that one. It had to do with the airbag assembly in the steering wheel. Ask your dealer on your next trip. They should be able to fix that one.

I have a rattle in the right side of the dashboard and the dealer can't seem to find it. It isn't the glove box or the door and it sounds like a plastic or muffled rattle. I think the dealer will have to keep looking for that one, since it sounds like its inside the dashboard. Any ideas??

everytime I think I find the location of a rattle, it disappears for a while and moves elsewhere! the old one naturally reappears and added to the new one, makes for for a nice symphony of rattles while you are driving
I guess this is really what they meant by the advanced 5.1 surround in the TL!

Hi Anubus12.... I had the same exact rattle in my '05, with about 2K miles on it as well.... I would just press on it while I was driving continuously..... Knock on wood, but the rattle suddenly disappeard!! Have not heard it since!

Hope that helps you...

My TL only has 200 miles and it has the same rattle. It looks like it is the speed gauge that makes the noise????? Here is what I did. When I stopped the car, I hit the top part of the gauge cluster and it made the same noise as when I drive and I hit the bumps. I am clueless.

I had the same problem my 04 since I bought the car. I took it to the dealer once before and they could not fix it. Just last week I went for the HFL TSB change and now the noise is gone. I don’t even know where the module is, but they unintentionally fixed it.

I have the same rattle. It really is anoying. I also have the rear deck rattle. I guess I should bring it in. I just hate doing it b/c I service the car myself and the dealership only sees me when I have complaints....

Need to sched. an appointment as it seems this is fixable.

I have a similar metalic sounding rattle coming from my instrument panel that will occur over certain bumps only. It may be in the steering wheel though because if I bang on it, I hear the noise.

I picked up my car today and want to share that my issue is gone now.

Here is what order says.

Rattle coming from steering wheel customer test drove with tec 707
Road tested with customer confirmed noise from steering neck
Took apart steering col. And installed special foam tape 510100 1.4 06201

I hope this will help to anyone who is expiriencing the same problem.

Thanks for the post. I'll talk to my dealer next time I go in for an oil change.
