Help on AT shifter removal

Does anyone have a diy on how to remove the shifter trim for an automatic? I accidently braked too hard and my drink spilled around the shifter trim. I've cleaned up most of it but the shifter is a little sticky to move. It doesnt get stuck or anything but it definitely doesnt feel as smooth as it did before.

is it the frame around the gears selector indicator or that flat piece under. either ones pop out. Yea from exp if soda or coffee gets down there it will eventually wear it out then you have to replace that whole shifter unit.

That trim piece around the top just pops off.
Beyond that, you get into an assembly, that you probably do not want to disassemble.

I know you can take the part off that has the P-R-N-D etc.. but I dont remember how to do it. I think it is relatively easy to take off once the whole shifter unit is out, but not while still in the car.
To get the shifter out, you have to take the lower part of the dash off where the storage bins are.

OP you might try spraying a liberal amount of WD40 into the top of the shifter and working it back and forth.... As stated above this unit is not somthing you want to start pulling apart... WD is known to dry out moisture and lubricate at the same time without harming or shorting electrical contacts...... GL

be careful with WD40 as it can damage some of the trim and stuff under there. Do it the right way and clean it out properly with Electrical Contact cleaner.
