Help Needed! 04 TL ignition issue?

Volume up - Anyone know what part I need to replace?
I thought it was the starter and replaced that but that didn’t fix this issue.

sounded like the flywheel smacking/grinding against the starter drive pinion gear

Could it be maybe be something in the ignition part itself or is there some sort of relay?

When you find out, let me know as over the last year it's happened maybe 3 times.
Turn key, buzzing, release, try again and it fires right up.
I guess it it gets bad like yours I'll need to do some searching.

Usually if the starter/solenoid bad they'll be some noise at the starter while this sounds close, maybe even in the cabin
when trying to start, but it happens without any warning so difficult to pinpoint.

Here's something for you and me, Ignition starter switch:

I found a video on YouTube with the exact issue.
The guy replaced the ignition switch on the bottom left of the steering wheel.
Looks like it’s a $30-50 part in Canada.

I had a similar issue with my 06 for a while It would start acting the same way. I cleaned and wire wheeled all of my ground points and cleaned the wires up real good and never had an issue after that.

I would take a multimeter to see if there is 12V at the starter SIGNAL wire (the small wire next to the constant 12V POWER). Takes a few seconds and eliminates the guesswork.

Don't forget to replace the + battery cable. At this age, it's more than likely corroded internally where you can't see.
