Unhappy 99TL - ignition switch related to ignition coil failure?

Past few months I have had random stalling while driving under all conditions. Turned out to be the Ignition switch. It was replaced under the recall back in 2004, so this one I had to pay for. This was done last week.

Yesterday I was driving to work and the car started to rough idle while waiting for the light to change. The "rough grinding" noise continued even revving the engine in park. Pulled off into a parking lot, and noticed a pretty bad smell coming from the exhaust. Had it towed in to the dealership (auto club = free) and they said the ignition coil had failed. They also recommended replacing the spark plugs.

I am not a car guy, but could the new ignition switch have caused the ignition coil to fail? If so, is there any recourse I should have with the dealer or is this just a downstream impact when I first replaced the ignition switch? Will wait to do the spark plugs until next month, as these recent ignition issues have already depleted my car budget for February!

Thanks for the input.

Thanks for all your input. Just checked my records. I have never actually replaced the spark plugs, so there is probably over 140,000 kms on the current ones. Noticed the Acura techs recommended replacing the plugs back in 2006... Hmmm, maybe it's time?
