Unhappy Help with auto transmission failure

Hello everyone,

First of all, New member here! and this is my first post here. Im also new to Acuras. Ive always owned GM cars.

So here is issue. I bought a 2006 Acura TL a-spec 3 months ago from a local guy. car had 58000 kms on it.
Yesterday while i was driving home from work, it started shifting very weird. rpms would climb up to 3-4000 and it would jerk and shift. i drove another 3-4 kms and the came up to a red light. when i tried going again the car wouldnt move. It was in drive and wouldnt move, no matter how high the rpms got. I tired putting it into manuel, reverse, low and nothing. i turned the car off, turned it back on and it started moving but shift really bad. i was only a minute away from home so i kept driving it home.

once i got home i checked the fluid. it was full and clean. The car sounded normal, didnt set of any lights but refused to move when i shift into gear. i had it towed to local transmission shop, they quoted me 3800 plus taxes and informed me the transmission needs to be rebuilt.

the car only has 70000 kms on and i find it very disappointing the trans has already failed.

im wondering if anyone else ran into something similar and what the soloution ended up being.

i just spent 20000 to buy the car and cant exactly afford to spend another 4000 on the tranny.

any help and info would be appreciated.

thanks in advance,
Paul

not much you can do unless you have warranty. Going to cost you replace the pressure switches and fluid and go from there

while i agree it can be deadly, it can also be good when used right. just don't do a full 4 x 3 drain and fill

more trouble than it's worth. probably need a different wiring harness, ECU (at least in old integras you did if you wanted to do it properly), shift linkage, center console, transmission mounts, MT gauge cluster, etc.

from what i've read on this forum, engine mounts for the MT are also stiffer, and also need the engine dampener that connects to the rear mount in the MT.

Although the outcome would be terrific. That is not either a simple or inexpensive switch. gauge cluster, ECU, additional pedal and associated hydraulics. It can be done, but you better be able to do the work yourself or its gonna be expensive.

what is your warranty situation? I had my 06 tranny warrantied at 70K

hello everyone,
Thank you for the heads up on the manual tranny. I wont go that route.

just to update everyone, Acura canada called me back today. They informed me that they will cover any charge because i do not have any history on the car...How can i? i just bought it acura! The person was very rude (talking down to me, like im stupid for asking for help) He informed me Acura doesnt have transmission issues and they cant help me. my car is 11 months over the warranty and has about 69k.

i was very polite and asked to speak with his manger, he informed me he is the case manger and i cant speak with anyone else. He said our mangers are here to supervise us, not deal with customers.

I am making an honest attempt to switch from GM to acura but this isn't helping.

I take care of my cars and feel this is bs. They are simply denying me help because i dont have history on the car and i am a new customer.

Also telling me that the transmission failed because its not looked after is a bad excause. I understand that not every car is bullet proof, but 69k is nothing for a tranny.

i owned a 98 corvette that i put 100k on without every having to touch the trnasmission fluid. Never had a issue with it.

The fluid in my acura was "slightly discolored" according to acura...never set off any codes, no signs of going bad and suddeny dies. looks like a manfacturing issues to me.

on an 2006 the powertrain warranty is 6 yrs or 70k mi. unless it's different for the canadian models.

04-05 TLs have a 4yr/50k mi warranty (bumper to bumper and powertrain).
