2005 TL transmission failure after 61,034 miles.

So I bought my car (only 5,000 miles at the time) from acura who claimed it had one owner but I still got the extended warranty with acura care just in case (thank god!!!). All the car's upkeep was done only by (rt17) Park ave Acura, NJ . I took it there for everything and never had any issues...until now. My car would not change gears after the 2nd it would rev high and the car would have a delay going to the 4th and 5th gear. I hooked up the computer and got a Speed sensor warning code...forgot the code but it said check speed sensor. I would have to turn off the car and then start it again and 5 minutes later the car would start slipping gears again. Acura has told me now that the transmission needs to be replaced! luckly its covered but I am super worried now! 60k is nothing on a car thats been taken care of really really well....and warranty ends March 2012. usually this is a precursor of more problems to come and advice???

Sounds about right. My mother's 01 Ody transmission lasted 60k, then we got that done under extended warranty and the second just failed at just over 120k (chassis mileage). The second time however, obviously out of warranty and cost 2800 to rebuild with 2 year warranty.

I like both odyssey and TL, and own both of them.
Honda's engine is good but their V6 5-speed tranny is a POS in terms of reliability

Sometimes it's hit or miss. Hopefully the next transmission will be reliable and you might never have a problem. That's really the only reliability issue with these cars...the engine is bulletproof.

I have replaced three transmissions each in our 00 odyssey and 06 TL. have them warranty the trans and keep up with maintenance. I do a 3x3 on the trans every 2-3 oil changes. Oh and cross your fingers and pray a lot.

^ lol yep, so far we've had to repair or replace my mom's odyssey transmission twice. Running on the recently rebuilt 2nd transmission that replaced the original at 60k. Seems like they go at 60k intervals. We're getting rid of it in about a year when the warranty expires.

my 06 tl had tranny failure at 68k last week. Acura has quoted me 4500 for repair and refuse to help with anything. im acutally going to start a facebook page and get people to mention tranny problems. According to Acura, their transmissions are fine and have no issues.

Don't take it to a dealer for one thing. Out here, my rebuilt transmission at a reputable shop cost 1/3 what the Acura dealer wanted.

Well there's a thread bump for ya!!

Well I have an 05 TL and I havnt had any signs of slippage, I guess its a hit or miss type of scenario. Its scary to see 06, small number of 07s and 04s failing more often. 05s are equally scary but I guess mine's doing fine. At 126,500 miles currently and got the ATF changed 2x3 and 3rd and 4th gear sensor changed all in last 14k miles.

Plan to get another ATF change at my local indie shop in another 8k miles. My car shifts fine, but when its hot it does seem to lag when getting up and moving. I try not to go over 2500rpm when I push the gas.

No abuse here!!! Mostly all highway commuting, but its sad that such a great car has such a major flaw (e.g. tranny).

I replaced my tranny at 106k. Yes, 1K out of warranty. I got Acura to cover all but $870 of it. I still feel as if they should've covered all of it, especially since I even expressed concerns about the tranny well before failure and did THREE TF swaps in the last 30K miles.

question.

not trying to thread jack. I'm currently going through this right now and looking at some options here. I can get a used 06 transmission for $1,900 with labor and no warranty(transmission has 60k on it). I can get it rebuilt for $2500 with 2yr/24,000 waranty. Or A Honda Remanned one installed for $3000 with a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty in which Acura will eat the cost if it does fail within that time period.. Which one would you choose? I called Acura and they said that there's nothing they could do for me even though I was really polite and explained how many Acuras and Hondas I've owned. I have 104k on my 06 tl. I'm super bummed. What is the better deal. Tired of riding my bike to work. Its been two weeks. Any help is much appreciated.

Sale date is likely xx/05.

"Time and Mileage Period

following ways:
• The vehicle is delivered to the
first purchaser by an Acura dealer.
• The vehicle is leased.
• The vehicle is used as a
