Grunting noise just before 2nd gear.

Not sure any of you experience this before, but I hear a grunting noise before the car shits to 2nd gear...roughly around the time auto-door locks kick in @10mph. I also feel the vibration thru the gas pedal at the same time. This happens typically once a day, the first time I start the car. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated

Mine does it too but not loud enough to get me worried. Just try to warm up your car before taking off in the morning. My door locks kick in right when I put it into D.

^ so yours does it somewhere between 1st and 2nd gear? Just worried that this might be an precursor to a bigger problem down the road.

Yeah, between 1st and 2nd, only when I take off without warming up the car in the cold morning. I wouldn't be worried too much about it.

When this happens, are you accelerating very slowly, and it happens right when the car shifts into second?

The OP is feeling the characteristic of the TL. When accelerating slowly, the TL's transmission has to engage 2nd gear quickly, thus the harsh engagement. This is part of the TL as if it shifts slowly, the car will then wind down and you can't accelerate in 2nd gear, thus requiring a quick shift or no shift at all, which is pointless since Drive by wire is detecting that you are driving slow and easy, and there is no need to rev up high.

My fix to this is to accelerate just a tad faster.

^ thanks everyone for their suggestions. I will check if faster acceleration makes a difference.
