A little update.

The 3m Vinyl finally got to my house! Unfortunately, what I thought were black leathers ended up being an assortment of colors. I ended up only getting 2 black ones. Luckily one of them is dead ringer!

Black, glossy black, Green, brown, and beige. All actually really nice looking and feeling. the quality on these things feel great

They are 8x10 sheets

Notice the sunshade on my fixed dash

Heres a slight comparisson of the only and new vinyl in the car. The bottom portion is my glove box, which is a bit shinier. The dash appears to be a bit more matte

Heres another one. The light was really harsh, but you can get an idea of the grain which looks almost identical

Im not sure if the images are convincing enough, but in real life, its actually very close. The model that matched up was LE-1171. Im going to try to take one of these vinyls and try to wrap a somewhat complex surface to see how it stretches and conforms. I just havent really thought of anything good. Plus, this vinyl is kind of neat. I might just try wrap something I want to keep. if you guys have any suggestions as to what I should try, let me know.

People do entire cars. I cant imagine a dash being worse. You'd probably have to remove some trim pieces to it looks continues, as well as use a razor/credit card to push the vinyl into the dashes edes (such as where it meets the dashboard.

Received a call today from Client services and it looks like their going to goodwill both of our vehicles. Once diagnosed at a local dealer we'll get a quote. Until then I'll keep you posted!: Also, If I may.... Keep in mind that it is imperative that you speak to Client Services Reps in a friendly and professional manner. I can honestly say that the conversation that took place today was with a rep. who was genuinely interested in offering a solution.

So I got a call back from Acura Client Relations. They talked with my dealer and total cost to me would be $670. No way am I paying that. I am going to see if they can pay more.. a lot more, after all this is a defect with the car and in no way am I at fault.

They pay more, but you must remain tactful.

That 20% definitely will not work since they are already only making you pay $415 in good will.

What is a reasonable amount to pay to replace the dash? I was quoted 2K by the dealer. Contacted Acura corp and they are getting back to me. How many times did you guys go back and forth with Acura before settling ?

Also once repaired is the defect resolved on the replaced dash ?

Definitely not...you all with newer TL's better hope you don't get to see that in person one day. LMAO...

Honestly if it happens again, I'll probably try and get it replaced again, but if any resistance, I'll just throw on another dash mat.

I contacted Acura Client Relations. They came back and told me the best they can do is $1K. I posted pictures on facebook and Twitter and the the Twitter responder just pointed me back to my Client Relations manager. Did you guys find your self going back and forth with CR for a while? I told the CR manager I was not happy with this and he pretty much said you have 2 weeks to decide and this is the best we can do. Just frustrated looking for any advice, thanks an advance!

I only went there once to see what they can do and they quoted me $415. We bought 2 cars from them, and I also told them we owned 4 other Hondas.

I finally got them down to $700 if I can can get them to 415 or lower I'd be done with this but they just don't see to budge. Wonder if writing some letters to execs will work or even get read ? BTW I am 2nd owner and don't service my car at Acura. I have purchased several hondas thous over the year just none of them new. Any one else in similar situation can tell me how low they've gone ?
Thanks of of any advice in advance!

I own an 05 TL and the dash just cracked! Right over the passenger airbag.... Noticed it pretty soon after it happened. Took it to Acura dealership and they put a claim into ACS or whoever they call to get a price adjustment. The service manager took pictures and sent the info. I am the original owner of the car; I maintained it at Acura until 2 years ago when the warranty expired and I do regular maintenance with my mechanic that is near my home. This is my second acura and third honda product so hopefully that helps and seeing I am the original owner. A car this expensive should not do this! The service manager said sometimes just going over a bump too hard and bam the dash cracks and that is what happened I think as there was road construction and it was dark and I hit a bump in the road and 2 days later I noticed the crack. Hopefully they come back with an offer of under $500. If not hopefully I can appeal the decision and get it lower. And if they still won't, I will try my auto insurance to replace it. Long shot but I don't have the $$ to spend more than $500 on it. I can not believe this happened. Yeah the engine may last but who wants to be driving a car with a cracked dashboard looking all ghetto.

Good news for me. Acura is agreeing to pay 70% the cost of a new dash...we are going to try to get them down a little bit more but thats fair I think. Going to go for it even if they dont come down anymore. Right now its just the single crack but I know what will happen if we dont replace now. Damn cars! This should NOT be happening on an acura product.

I just installed the dash mat and it looks horrendous! It's super thick and looks like a rug laying on top of the dash... I thought it would be thinner and less fluffy.. Ill post pics tomorrow...

Armoralled my dash yesterday. Crack today. I am the second owner of a 2006. Did you have to get Acura Customer Relations involved or just the dealer? I have only owned the car 5 weeks. Not something you want to see on a car you just bought. I am concerned Acura wont give me the same goodwill due to being the second owner and the cars age.

Rick is the manager at Gatorland Acura in Gainesville, FL. He helped me and was really nice. My door was also scuffed while the dash was being replaced and they fixed the door for free. Rick is the man.

I was just quoted ~$700 to replace my dash from performance Acura in Chapel Hill, NC. This seems absurd I have been emailing Acura Client Relations about this issue. Awaiting their reply. Anybody have any suggestions on what to do?

Client Relations had given me a case number before going into the dealership. Would a Honda dealership do it? Crown Honda has fantastic customer service from what I have experienced.

The key is to keep the inside temperature in the car from going too extreme, hot or cold.
Window visors on my car, and now I do insulated sunshade, windows cracked, and tint all around...my car is NEVER super hot when I get in it now, hoping to keep the new dash from ever cracking again.

Owned my 2005 since new and well maintained at the dealer since. (even bought and used the Honda leather/vinyl cleaner and conditioner on the dash since I bought it) Long history of owning Acura/Honda vehicles. I have been trying hard to get Acura to cover this dash replacement. First tried the dealer, about $1500 offer. Then several back-and-forths with the regional rep, about $800 offer. Several letters to Acura Execs and a phone call with regional manager later, still $800. What angers me the most is the different treatment given to Acura's customers. Considering my individual case, I should have been given a much better deal. If this does not get resolved to my satisfaction I will be moving on to Lexus. I did not spend nearly $40K on a luxury car that should not have a cracking dash at this age. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Ned, keep your cool, stay in touch with your local rep via twitter/fb and be persistent. How much of a headache you might cause will directly impact how much they'll pay on your behalf. Also, read the 3 bullets on what they care about, previously posted.

Just saw it this morning, must have happened over night. The second crack has now appeared

Brilliant fucking idea sticking the airbag in that spot and using that dash material to cover it like that, Acura.

For people with dash cracks, do you guys use any cleaner that can cause the dash to harden? When I press on my 06 dash with my fingers, it feels soft. I don't think it will crack. The day I see the crack, I will go crazy though.
