A couple of minor issues with my new TL-S 6M
Hello Ziners,
I just bought my new 08 TL-S last month and am enjoying the heck out of it. I have run across a few minor hiccups though.
1) Last night after watching the Panthers devour some little birdies from Arizona live in Charlotte, I went to a McDonald's drive thru. In typical McDonald's fashion, they took forever, so I shut off and restarted the ignition while in line a couple of times. After I started the car the second time, the check-engine light came on and the computer displayed code P0174. I got 32 mpg on the way back to Atlanta, so I'm thinking that maybe the fuel just came in a little rich due to the off/on sequence I put the car through while sitting in the drive through. Does this sound valid, and if so then how do I go about safely resetting the check engine light?
2) The cruise control button does not stick. Does a fix for this involve removing the airbag?
3) The notorious 3rd gear pop-out happens on occasion. Will GM Synchromesh fully solve this, or is it simply a "band-aid" that will last for only a set amount of miles?
4) Finally, in cold temperatures after the car has been sitting for a bit, the memory seat position does not activate unless I give it a hard tap or firmly press on the button area. Is there a way to go in and fix this, or should I just deal with it?
Thanks for your help!

1) I do this all the time without a CEL.
2) not a clue
3) If you read up, it has a decent success rate. I never had the 3rd gear issue, but the magic juice smoothed out most of my other odd issues. Although my 2nd is getting notchy again...but I think that is just age of the transmission now.
4) not a clue
Overall....I am not much help.

Sounds like a glitch, check battery.
2) The cruise control button does not stick. Does a fix for this involve removing the airbag?
New CC switch will be installed, yes the airbag is removed very easily with 2 screws on the side of the steering wheel. You'll need new screws. Disconnect battery when working on airbags.
3) The notorious 3rd gear pop-out happens on occasion. Will GM Synchromesh fully solve this, or is it simply a "band-aid" that will last for only a set amount of miles?
For many it's solved the issue for a long time but maybe someone else can chime in.
4) Finally, in cold temperatures after the car has been sitting for a bit, the memory seat position does not activate unless I give it a hard tap or firmly press on the button area. Is there a way to go in and fix this, or should I just deal with it?
Sounds like a dying battery issue or a bad mirror actuator that is messing up the memory system. Do any of your mirror motors not work in certain directions?
Thanks for your help!

Yeah for is due #3 the GM fluid should do the trick.
I have the same issue as your #4. My pass side mirror goes nuts if I leave the switch to the pass mirror and try to reverse. I'll have to get to the mirror actuator one if these days

For item 1, it may be TSB 08-043 - MIL Comes On With DTC P0171 or P0174.

Fyi, shutting the car on & off in short periods wouldn't result in a noticeable difference than idling in a drive-thru, plus it puts unwanted strain on the starter.
For the 3rd gear problem, try the GM syncromesh friction modified fluid as mentioned above. Stuff is amazing. Grab 3 quarts as the tranny holds approx. 2.3 quarts. Bunch of how-to's and write up's on the forum for this yourself if you wish. As for success with this it depends how bad your third gear synchronizer is. How frequent is the pop-out happening? Any problems with any other gears?
I've only had the memory seat problem once, I have no idea what the fix for it is but I'm guessing mine just fluked on me that one time lol.
